    With the rapid development of prognostics and health management (PHM) technologies particularly for armored equipment, the on-line distributed collection and wireless transmission of the monitoring data has become a demanding question for the researchers. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provide a newly measure for data acquisition of the PHM system for armored equipment, with its features of small size, simple layout and wireless transmission. This paper discusses the key factors in the design of PHM based on WSNs, proposes the WSNs-based framework and scheme for PHM data transfer focusing on the power transmission assembly of armored equipment, specifies the design of relevant modules and makes suggestions about the future researches.

  • Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) System requirements and validation

    This paper based on four key abilities of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) System including the abilities of fault detection, fault isolation, fault prognosis and prognosis of the remaining life, analyzes and constructs a framework of the PHM quantitative requirements, and defines the quantitative assessment emphasis of the PHM abilities. Targeting these quantitative requirements and proceeding from the viewpoint of life cycle assessment, this paper presents three methods of the PHM System validation, which are the validation method based on analysis and assessment, the validation method based on simulation (including entire simulation validation and half-entity simulation validation) and the validation method based on experimentation. This paper defines the emphasis on the PHM System analysis and assessment, ascertains the implementary elements and the simulated environmental framework of the PHM System simulated validation and elaborates two central elements of the PHM System experimental validation - the experiment scheme and the experiment technique. This paper provides thoughts and methods to the quantitative validation assessment of the rapidly developing and applying PHM System.

  • Application of PHM Technology in the Design of Tank Fire Control System

    Combining with the process of Prognostics Health Management (PHM), the technology and application of armored vehicle fire control system PHM were discussed. The architecture of the health management system for tank fire control system was researched. According to the information characteristics of tank fire control system, the dual redundant bus transmission technology of FLEXRAY and CAN was applied, and the corresponding software and hardware systems were designed. Through the vehicle test, it is proved that the health management system will be effective for locating the fault, comparing the aim and assisting the soldier training. The data and video collected by this system are convenient for both maintenance and further study as the basic data.

    First of all, this paper briefly introduces the current management and use of telemetry data, remote control information, satellite test environment data, space environment data after orbit and so on, which most are produced by satellite test and on-orbit management. Then the software platform for application of the satellite data accessing and monitoring based on the distributed large data management technology is studied. Combined with the existing Prognostic and Health Management (PHM) technology, the Satellite Prognostic and Health Management (S-PHM) system architecture is explored, and how the data in the satellite's life cycle stored in the software platform can be efficiently integrated into the S-PHM system is analyzed too. Finally we hope this could provide support and services for the on-orbit health management of satellites and the design of new satellites.

    Aircraft Propulsion System is a complex system which needs to be detected to make sure the safety of flying and maintain in time. The prognostics and health management (PHM) of aircraft propulsion system is the core of the PHM of whole aircraft. Because of it is considered that the ground surveillance technology is more important than the online PHM, this paper introduces the connotation, functionalities and architecture of prognostics and health management. The function requirement and allocation of the prognostics and health management of aircraft propulsion system is considered to design PHM, in the terms of architecture and functionalities. The integrated prognostics is described and designed. An inference engine is proposed. The designing and the function of integrated diagnosis of Prognostics and Health Management for Aircraft Propulsion System are achieved. And it has great value for engineering applications.

  • The design of the prognostics and health management system for special vehicle

    With the rapid development of sensor technology on vehicles, more and more vehicles are checked from artificial detection to auto monitoring. A great number of real-time data acquired from sensors provides important foundation for PHM application on vehicles. Aiming at the special mining vehicle, it proposes the solution for real-time monitoring, fault diagnosis and health management based on the PHM theory. First, a kind of application service architecture is designed to describe how to implement the special mining vehicle PHM system and meet the needs of fault diagnosis and health management. Second, it describes each service module of the PHM platform system in detail, including inner functions and interaction. Third, it studies and proposes the models and methods of the various service modules, which can be used to implement the goals of the monitoring, diagnosis and health management from the view of the vehicle parameters. Finally, the Special Vehicle PHM System is developed based on the proposed models and methods, which is being successfully used in SanJiang Aerospace Group. The practical application result shows the proposed the design of PHM system can provides the service of fault diagnosis and health management for the special mining vehicles, which has great value for PHM implementation and promotion in the field of vehicles.

  • Research on marine diesel's fault prognostic and health management based on oil monitoring

    Oil monitoring technology is an effective way to actualize condition based maintenance (CBM) for marine diesel, it can detect earlier failure symptoms, avoidance of fault taking place, it's one of the indispensable diagnostic technology applied in marine diesel's prognostic and health management (PHM). In this paper, according to oil spectral analysis data collected from continuous monitoring, a fault prognostic method based on statistical process control (SPC) for marine diesel was provided, which was taken main wearing elements' concentration gradient as quality characteristic index, it indicated that their exist special causes leading marine diesel's abrasion state out of statistical control, needing to find the root cause of the failure; and based on the oil spectral analysis data previously, projection pursuit (PP) approach was introduced to synthetic evaluation of marine diesel's performance degradation degree, then established the judgment criterion, it given an guidance to marine diesel's health management.

  • A useful technology for PHM with signal simulation

    Prognostics and health management (PHM) is a technology which seeks to reduce/eliminate inspections and time-based maintenance through accurate monitoring, incipient fault detection, and prediction of impending faults. The theories and the results of PHM technology are still in the baby stage, and the engineering applications of PHM technology need to be verified and validated, which requires a large number of simulations and tests to make it matures. An important factor restricting the development of PHM technology is the lack of system failure data. This paper presents an identically distributed resampling technology based on a small number of failure data. Namely on the basis of failure mode database, combining with statistical principles, the approach uses sampling method such as the bootstrap to achieve the RUL(Remaining Useful Life) data simulation with identically distribution for higher-quality data. The experiment with PHM08 data shows that this method can more accurately estimate the life of the engine unit. Finally the development process of a resampling module based on a small number of failure data is introduced.
