A Robust Method for Identification of Paper Currency Using Otsu’s Thresholding

2018 International Conference on Smart Computing and Electronic Enterprise (ICSCEE), 2018

In this modern world, the correct identification of paper currency is an essential need for the automation of current systems. The automatic currency identification method is highly required to reduce the human power in recognizing the currency and its associated value. Sometimes, the damaged or blurred currency and the complex design of the currency make the task of identification much ...

Image Processing Based Detection of Counterfeit Indian Bank Notes

2018 9th International Conference on Computing, Communication and Networking Technologies (ICCCNT), 2018

Currency counterfeiting is a significant offense which has a profound impact on the assets and capital of the citizens thus having an adverse effect on the nation's finances. The schemes currently existing to combat the falsification of banknotes are complex, hardware-based and inaccessible to the common people. In this paper, a unique authentication system is proposed which is compact, mobile ...

Gaussian process kernel crossover for automated forex trading system

2017 14th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI-CON), 2017

Due to time varying volatility of forex financial time series price data, the traditional technical analysis such as simple moving average (SMA) and exponential moving average (EMA) cannot capture the dynamic time varying in the market. The combination of Gaussian Process kernel framework and classical trendline crossover strategy is proposed with new objective function for optimization trading performance. The experimental ...

Individuals are connecting with various people, which makes many companies actively employ social media to communicate with existing and potential customers for marketing. While social networks comprise a mix of various activities such as liking, commenting, tagging, and following, little is known about the way in which liking and tagging characterize one's social networks. In this paper, we define two types of a like network: tag-based like network, non-tag-based like network and present a comparative analysis with regard to their structural and temporal aspects. Our study results show (1) a significant difference in the network size and the degree of components between the two networks and (2) the potential of the tag-based like network to have more followers than the non- tag-based like network. We highlight how the tag-based like network can be utilized to find users with the same interests, supporting additional, interest based social connection and interaction. Our study insights are expected to be developed and utilized as a web service system.

  • A Robust Method for Identification of Paper Currency Using Otsu’s Thresholding

In this modern world, the correct identification of paper currency is an essential need for the automation of current systems. The automatic currency identification method is highly required to reduce the human power in recognizing the currency and its associated value. Sometimes, the damaged or blurred currency and the complex design of the currency make the task of identification much difficult. In this paper, a method is proposed that can identify paper currency by considering the identification marks given on the currency. Specifically, this study focuses on the identification of Pakistani paper currency. The proposed method makes use of the fundamental image processing techniques for differentiating the major denominations. Particularly, the proposed algorithm uses Otsu's thresholding method and circulatory matrix criteria for locating the special identity marks given on the currency. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been shown by performing various experiments on all of the major denominations of Pakistani paper currency with varying intensities. The Proposed method shows quite satisfactory results in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

  • Image Processing Based Detection of Counterfeit Indian Bank Notes

Currency counterfeiting is a significant offense which has a profound impact on the assets and capital of the citizens thus having an adverse effect on the nation's finances. The schemes currently existing to combat the falsification of banknotes are complex, hardware-based and inaccessible to the common people. In this paper, a unique authentication system is proposed which is compact, mobile and devoid of any hardware components. Certain security features, such as security thread and latent image, embedded on the note are utilized to help ascertain its legitimacy. The methodology involves the extraction and encoding of these security features. Given the prominence of the security thread in certain image planes, a clustering algorithm, k-means is applied for classification. The latent image, segmented via template matching was encoded using HOG descriptor and classified with an SVM model. The result is illustrated with the aid of performance parameters and overall accuracy.

  • Static model of equilibrium prices on mutual debts of subjects of global economy

The features of non-payment problem of global economy, including mutual debts have been indicated in the matrix form in the paper. Afterwards this problem has been converted into linear programming setting and solved by the Simplex method. Note that, LP enables us to find the market value of the existing debts in the market. The calculated equilibrium prices of mutual debts mean that potentially there are no debts to be repaid. In other words, it is required to find the price level that ensures the equality of receivables and payables on subjects. The constructed model has a static characteristic and applied using the data for the top 10 biggest world countries.

  • Smart Contracts for Incentivizing Sensor Based Mobile Smart City Applications

  • Currency recognition system using image processing

In this paper, we propose a system for automated currency recognition using image processing techniques. The proposed method can be used for recognizing both the country or origin as well as the denomination or value of a given banknote. Only paper currencies have been considered. This method works by first identifying the country of origin using certain predefined areas of interest, and then extracting the denomination value using characteristics such as size, color, or text on the note, depending on how much the notes within the same country differ. We have considered 20 of the most traded currencies, as well as their denominations. Our system is able to accurately and quickly identify test notes.

  • Predicting Short-Term Exchange Rates for Automatic Purchasing Using News Article Data

Recent years, increasing online securities companies has led to a massive increase in the number of investing in stock and foreign exchange markets by individual investors. For individual investors, text data such as news articles and websites is a familiar and easy source of information. In addition, machine learning techniques for stock market prediction have attracted much attention by using text data as well as numerical data. Due to the small number of studies on exchange rates, it also increases the demand for supporting exchange investment. This paper introduces a novel method to predict short-term price movements of exchange using machine learning techniques by utilizing online news articles. In this work, our proposed method can detect the relationships between news articles and exchange rate fluctuations. Furthermore, we apply foreign exchange forecasting to automatic purchasing systems, and we verify the usefulness of the proposed methods support for exchange investment.

  • Digital Payments in India: The Road Ahead

India is a vast country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, with nearly one-seventh of its residents living in rural areas. However, India is blessed with a young demographic profile with half of the population younger than 21 years of age. Mobile phones have penetrated almost all households, well into the hinterlands. Also, with a significant push to expand the banking network by the government and the Reserve Bank, most of the population is now either banking or within the banking industry's reach. A large share of the newly banked population has started banking activity, and the government benefits (such as those in the forms of subsidies and pensions) are now being directly transferred to the citizens through these accounts. The use of digital modes of payment have also gained steam, though the pace has been gradual and cautious.
