The design of hardware and software for the system is expatiated in this paper, which includes circuit design of the modules of data collecting, transmitting and processing based on IC cards and single-chip technology, the software system and the main programs to realize the functions of the system.

The electromagnetic transient model of the mobile power station was built by PSCAD/EMTDC. After analyzing the faults induced by lightning overvoltage, a deep study of the simulation model was carried out to find the acting principles in power electronic devices and components. From simulation results we find out several laws to raise the lightning with-standing level of power stations concerning influencing factors such as the grounding resistance, SPD, etc.. Aimed at the direct striking and the inducing lightning the key parts of mobile power stations were decided to take some innovation measures correspondingly. In the last, a modularized device was designed and equipped for the power station.

  • Mobile power equipment: Its impact on power supply reliability

    Mobile power equipment is an important measure to reduce customer outages. It enables power-uninterrupted repairs and maintenance. It can be added to the networks to quickly restore power service after fault occurrence and hence reduce power outage time. This paper presents the results of a project recently performed within the Smart Grids R&D program at the power company Vattenfall, in Sweden. The project analyzed, among other things, the effect of using mobile power equipment on power supply reliability based on the outage data and statistics from Vattenfall network company in Sweden. The results show that there is big potential in reducing outages and increasing reliability of power supply. By using mobile power equipment combined with LW (live working) methods, interruption-free work in both station environment and on power lines can be performed. This will potentially eliminate planned outages up to 90% and hence significantly improve the utility's power service reliability.

  • Design of embedded mobile power station's monitoring instrument

    This paper describes the design and implementation of the mobile power station monitoring instrumentation under Windows CE 6.0 operating system with embedded microprocessor S3C6410. For improving the communication capabilities of traditional mobile power station monitoring instrumentation, a new Ethernet interface using the DM9000E core chip is designed. After transplanting the chip's driver, the monitoring instrumentation can communicate with a high speed. The software part focuses on the design of A/D sampling driver and the technique how to use Visual Studio 2005 to compile the driver. This makes it be added to the operating system. Tested by experiment, the instrument can sample accurate values of voltage and current, meet the actual needs and achieve the desired design goals.

  • A mobile power generation station driven by wind, solar and diesel

    To meet the electricity demand for fieldwork applications where the grid is unavailable, a mobile power generation station driven by wind, solar and diesel is presented in this paper. Different from the conventional solutions where the diesel is the sole source, the proposed approach utilizes the wind and solar as the main sources while the diesel is used as back-up. With a reasonable capacity configuration, this proposed design highly increases the service time and reduces the dependence on traditional sources. Therefore, the proposed solution is suitable for the long-term fieldwork application in remote areas. Finally, a practical mobile power generation station has been presented.

  • Mobile power issues with test equipment

    This paper summarizes issues with using mobile power generators (MEPs) with automatic test equipment. MEPs are used on the flight line and at AF bases worldwide where facility power is unavailable. MEPs generate high power, connect directly to ATE with no current limiting devices in between, and are often left ungrounded. With these MEP issues ATE should be designed to detect power on its chassis.

  • Design, implementation and financial analysis of a mobile power transformer (TEM) as a method to minimize SAIDI in electrical distribution systems

    This paper presents a proposal for using a mobile elevator transformer in energy distribution systems in order to reduce SAIDI index caused by electrical maneuvers scheduled. The authors propose an electric model of the TEM, they implement the equipment in a programmed maneuver showing the benefits in the operation. Finally they carry out an analysis in order to establish the financial viability.
