  • Identifier-based universal network architecture

    The research team led by Prof. ZHANG Hongke at Beijing Jiaotong University, China, has created a new future Internet architecture called the Identifier- based Universal Network (IUN) architecture. The IUN is the research result of the national research project “Fundamental Research on the Architecture of Universal Network for Supporting Pervasive Services”, which was supported by the National Basic Research Program (also called the 973 Program) of China, and was launched in May 2007. Because of the greater likelihood that the traditional Internet will fail to meet the needs of future networks which requires high-speed, ubiquity and efficiency, this project adopts a clean- slate approach, and aims to design a novel trustworthy network architecture that not only inherits the merits of the current Internet, but also overcomes its drawbacks.

  • Enabling the Verticals of 5G: Network Architecture, Design and Service Optimization

    5G technology will address a wide range of use cases, far more than any previous generation of mobile communications technology. These use cases include enhanced mobile broadband, ultra‐reliable and low‐latency communications and massive machine‐type communications. The optimization of control and user plane may be necessary depending on use case. A key driver for 5G is to serve new and evolving use cases from vertical industries while continuing to enhance the wide‐area mobile broadband experience for all subscribers. A 5G end‐to‐end network supports subscriber data management, control plane functions and user plane functions. Since the early days of Global System for Mobile Communications and then General Packet Radio Service, the mobile eco‐system has been familiar with logical representations of mobile network architectures. These diagrams take the form of functional blocks and the interfaces between them, officially known as reference points. The chapter presents the view of the 3GPP 5G network, referred to as “reference point representation”.

  • Channel grouping architecture for multi-channel networks

    A multi-channel network that uses a separate channel for control packets exchange in order to coordinate the data communication, is studied in this paper. We assume that the parallel data channels are divided into two groups, while an one to one correspondence among the data channels of the two groups is considered. This assumption is exploited by the proposed asynchronous transmission MAC protocol in order to decrease the channels collisions probability. An analytical model based on Poisson statistics is developed for the performance measures evaluation. The average throughput and the average transmission cancellation probability in order to avoid a channel collision are studied for several numbers of data channels.

  • A Parameterized Wildcard Method Based on SDN for Server Load Balancing

    With the rapid growth of the Internet services, a better technology to support network traffic management is required. Load balancing is a common strategy for this issue. Due to the development of novel network technology - Software Defined Network (SDN), there are more possibilities and opportunities on this issue. The major feature of SDN is the decoupling of the control and data planes to fulfill the logical centralized control in practical and the paradigm of SDN has demonstrated its programmability and high flexibility on network management. So far, many researchers worked on load balancing using OpenFlow networks. One of the improvements is wildcard rule method and we proposed an improved parameterized approach on the host partition process and the proposed method is more efficient when a larger binary tree is given.

  • TeraOPS hardware: A new massively-parallel MIMD computing fabric IC

    This article consists of a collection of slides from the author's conference presentation on Ambric's TeraOPS hardware, a parallel MIMD computing fabric for integrated circuits. Some of the specific topics discussed include: the special features and architecture of TeraOPS; deployment and applications for its use; processing capabilities; facilities for object programming; programming model and tools; and new areas of technological development.

  • A roadmap for SDN-based network management: Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan case

    Due to technological blast in hardware, software and communications systems, computing devices in multi forms (laptops, cell phones, tablets...) and vendors are spreading all over the globe connecting billions of users, and communicating massive amount of data daily, through the underlining networking infrastructures. University campus is no exception. Typical users of an educational campus network are students, faculty members, and the administrative staff. The increase number of mobile users, BYOD, social media applications, real-time video and audio communications, and mobile based services are some of the major challenges that put huge pressure and stress on the university campus network operators to manage and satisfy their customers. In this paper a software defined network (SDN) based design is proposed for managing Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan (ZUJ) network to overcome the emerging networking challenges. Current ZUJ network service is focusing on provisioning best effort connectivity. Our approach is this paper is to explore the primary challenges faced by the ZUJ network administrators, examine the limitations of the current solutions, and then propose an SDN design that will overcome the limitations of the current deployed network.

  • Adaptive neural network control of the temperature in an oven

    Many authors have shown by simulated studies, that a great number of non- linear dynamical systems could be identified and controlled by using neural network models. The authors applied these results to a real process : an oven with two inputs, one for heating and one for cooling. The output to be controlled is the temperature inside the oven. The choice of the control strategy on the one hand and the choice of the neural network architecture for the oven identification on the other hand had to satisfy two main objectives. First, the control strategy should be quite insensible to random disturbances (air leaks, door openings, ...) and the neural model should be able to fit any modification of the plant dynamics during its lifetime (modification of the internal load alteration of the heating system ...). The authors chose to use the internal model control as their control strategy. They also used a radial basis function network to identify the plant. The process identification is composed of two phases, an off-line one and an online one. The off-line part consists first in training the network while determining its internal structure using an initial training set. The on-line phase is the adaptive part of the control scheme.<>
