  • A Smart Home Gateway Platform for Data Collection and Awareness

    Smart homes have attracted much attention due to the expanding of IoT and smart devices. In this article, we propose a smart gateway platform for data collection and awareness in smart home networks. A smart gateway will replace the traditional network gateway to connect the home network and the Internet. A smart home network supports different types of smart devices, including in- home IoT devices, smartphones, smart electric appliances, and so on. A traditional network gateway is not capable of providing quality of service measurement, user behavioral analytics, or network optimization. Such tasks are traditionally performed with measurement agents such as optical splitters or network probes deployed in the core network. Our proposed platform is a lightweight plug-in for the smart gateway to accomplish data collection, awareness, and reporting. While the smart gateway is able to adjust the control policy for data collection and awareness locally, a cloud-based controller is also included for more refined control policy updates. Furthermore, we propose a multi-dimensional awareness plug-in framework to achieve accurate data awareness at the smart gateway. The efficiency of data collection and accuracy of data awareness of the proposed platform is demonstrated based on tests using actual data traffic from a large number of smart home users.

Comparing the two results, when the speech signal is used as an input, the embedding dimension of the nonlinear signal output by the sensor is more accurate than the FNN by the Cao solution. It laid the foundation for the subsequent establishment of relevant mathematical models.

This paper presents an online to offline (O2O) system to support the treatment and management of asthma, based on individualized strategies for the overall asthma control. It uses Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to create an asthma care system that provides the online virtual service and offline real service to support patients and medicals in the improvement of the treatment outcome.

  • Poster Abstract: Chained of Things: A Secure and Dependable Design of Autonomous Vehicle Services

    The rise of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) indicates that AVs are soon going to be the juggernaut in car industry. The state-of-the-art technology used by the AVs makes ride-sharing a prominent and flexible way for transportation. In this case, the customers (i.e., who are sharing the AV) and the AV all should come into the picture to verify each other. However, When a user requests for a ride share or rent, the responding AV/IoT device does not have the sufficient capability to store, process, or verify each other. In the existing security solutions, every AV/IoT device typically needs to rely on a trusted third party, which invokes another trust issue. If the trusted third party is rogue or loses credibility, the whole system will collapse. This research aims at exploiting Blockchain to provide a secure and reliable way to communicate among devices with trusts. We implement our proposed Blockchain-based solution and demonstrate the solution on a synthetic case study.

  • The Possibility for the Active Use of Smart Devices in University Education

    In recent years, the use of the Internet through the smart device that is the representation of smartphones is rapidly increasing. On the other hand, in the ICT environment of the university, place and time for the use are still largely constrained, which is a problem for its easily-used spread. In this study, we examined the possibility for the active use of smart devices while learning out-in classroom in order to complement the ICT environment offered by the university. As a result, the following two points have been showed. (1) The main time zone and the place used by the majority of the students are suitable for the learning outside the classroom. (2) It is without reference to the anxiety about the use of the Internet that the students have a positive attitude to use actively smartphone while learning. Based on the above, it is suggested that the possibility of the learning environment through the smartphone can be availably utilized to the learning outside the classroom, including the flipped classroom. As the next study, it will be continued to make sure the teachers awareness.

  • Cloak Of Invisibility: Privacy-friendly Photo Capturing and Sharing System

    The wide adoption of smart devices with cameras facilitates photo capturing and sharing, but greatly increases people's concern on privacy. Here we seek a solution to respect the privacy of persons being photographed in a smarter way that they can be automatically erased from photos captured by smart devices according to their intention. To make this work, we need to address three challenges: 1) how to enable users explicitly express their intentions without wearing any visible specialized tag, and 2) how to associate the intentions with persons in captured photos accurately and efficiently. Furthermore, 3) the association process itself should not cause portrait information leakage and should be accomplished in a privacy-preserving way. In this work, we design, develop, and evaluate a system, called COIN (Cloak Of INvisibility), that enables a user to flexibly express her privacy requirement and empowers the photo service provider (or image taker) to exert the privacy protection policy. Leveraging the visual distinguishability of people in the field-of- view and the dimension-order-independent property of vector similarity, COIN achieves high accuracy and low overhead. We implement a prototype system, and our evaluation results on both the trace-driven and real-life experiments confirm the feasibility and efficiency of our system.
