2-D adaptive piecewise-linear filter for image enhancement

1996 8th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO 1996), 1996

A two-dimensional adaptive nonlinear filter, called 2-D FIR-PWL filter is introduced for noise cancellation from images. It is based on the cascade of a linear FIR filter and a piecewise-linear interpolating function. Experimental results show a very good behaviour of the filter, which outperforms in many application examples the Sigma filter both in terms of visual quality and numerical results.

  • A new smoothing filter for directional detection and enhancement

    A novel smoothing filter is proposed for directional filtering, based on the optimal linear estimate and the multispike model. Because of differential operators being sensitive to noise in images, it is preferable to use bandpass filters that are insensitive to noise and have a good precision of line localization. Experiments are described that demonstrate that the images filtered are less noisy and have better precision than those filtered by the directional filter. The experimental results are very satisfactory with many images.<>

  • Automated construction of image processing procedure based on misclassification condition

    Proposes an expert system, IMPRESS-Pro, that automatically constructs an image processing procedure to decide whether there exists a specific figure in an image or not based on the requirement of misclassification rates given by a user. This system has a sequence of several local processes whose algorithms and parameters are unfixed and decides them sequentially in accordance with a condition for each local process performance estimated from the requirement on misclassification rates. The paper also shows experimental results of applying this system to procedure generation problems for extracting defective parts on the surface of integrated circuit packages with promising results.

  • On integrodifferential calculus in fractal antenna design

    The introduced antenna simulation procedure and results received proved the appropriateness of integrodifferentials methods for adjustment of classic models with ideal material properties. The offered formulations of the equations of electrodynamics and antenna design theory in terms of /spl alpha/-characteristics allow obtaining theoretical models of fractal antennas, which are adequate to experimental models.

  • The mid and long-term load forecast method based on synthesis best fitting forecasting model

    It is very important for power system planning and market strategy development to forecast mid and long-term load. Building the mathematic model of the historical data of the forecast object is the pith of the load forecast. However, forecasting accuracy is a challenge when applying both classical load forecast methods or heuristic methods individually. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a new hybrid method with three separate load models, i.e. a grey model GM(1,1), an exponential smoothing model and an unitary nonlinear regression model base on historical data. Annealed with a integrated optimal fitting approach using genetic algorithm (GA) technique, three coefficients are obtained, including wl of grey model GM(1,1) model, w2 of exponential smoothing model, and w3 of unitary nonlinear regression. Case study is with the Chinese national electricity consumption data from 1990-1999. The proposed method shows very good midterm and long-term forecast accuracy.
