Representation of performance data in grid systems

Tsinghua Science and Technology, 2004

The increasingly frequent exchange of performance data in grid systems across heterogeneous platforms requires a uniform “representation” of various types of performance data. This paper reviews the current related research, considers the defect of existing methods, and proposes a new portable description method: grid performance data description (GPDD) using an extensible markup language (XML)-based grid performance data representation language (XGPDRL). ...

  • Representation of performance data in grid systems

The increasingly frequent exchange of performance data in grid systems across heterogeneous platforms requires a uniform “representation” of various types of performance data. This paper reviews the current related research, considers the defect of existing methods, and proposes a new portable description method: grid performance data description (GPDD) using an extensible markup language (XML)-based grid performance data representation language (XGPDRL). GPDD describes the abstract structure, which has excellent extensibility (all types of performance data can be described in one format), efficiency, and flexibility. XGPDRL defines the grammar of the GPDD performance data representation, and is both extensible and portable. For benchmarking purposes, performance data can be collected during runtime, represented in XGPDRL, and analyzed visually using a browser across heterogeneous platforms. GPDD and XGPDRL can conveniently ensure data comprehension across various platforms, and are very suitable for grid performance data representation.

  • BEACON TECHNOLOGY WITH IoT AND BIG DATA

The history of beacons starts a long time ago as a way to signal over long distances using fire or later light houses. Beacons, as pertains to the Internet of Things (IoT), started with bluetooth and accelerated with advancement to bluetooth low energy (BLE), now referred to as bluetooth smart. The bluetooth protocol has been around for many years enabling wireless transfer of data including both audio and video by the creation of a sharable wireless personal network. The data attained from a person's corporate ID can be combined with information about their movement, who they are meeting with, and cross referenced against other members of their team. Big data is about using large data sets to predict and reveal patterns in human behavior. This is where indoor location and positioning can help everything from Marketers to UN peace keepers understand situations better and react accordingly.

Socrative student and Socrative teacher are applications that enable teachers to implement an engaging class environment through educational exercises and games that can be used on any web enabled devices, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops. • Optimized WebGIS application and research based on three-tier under .Net Environment and distributed Browser/Server architecture

A kind of solution for WebGIS based on distributed Browser/Server architecture has been proposed, which was implemented by using IIS to manage MapObjects application. Internet Information Services managed server side and was embedded with MapObjects2.3 to provide GIS functions. Users can enjoy WebGIS services by using general browser. Now WebGIS solution is optimized based on popular three-tier, which consists of presentation layer, business logic layer and data access layer, besides, spatial database engine (ArcSDE) middleware technology is used to manage a variety of spatial data and attribute data which are stored in the relational database SQL Server 2005. The solution is easier to maintain because of low coupling between layers and high cohesion within layers. As a validation for feasibility and high efficiency, a web version of campus digital map was implemented by using the solution as the frame.

  • A method for resizing images by content perception

Given the popularity of mobile and wearable devices, it is important to focus on the clarity of the displayed content for the end users. Currently, there is no link between the layout or size of displayed image and the information content in those images. In this paper, we present a method for optimally arranging and displaying a group of images, where the images are resized such that the relative size of the images is proportional to the number of objects in the images, or the number of faces. This ensures that the user gets to view faces or objects in images equally well regardless of the original size of the images. The method can be used for a number of applications in a mobile device, such as the gallery, web browser and video applications. We present implementation details to resize and layout a group of images displayed on a web page in a web browser. We also present results of a user study to see if such an approach might be desirable.

  • Web Browser based GUI for TV

This paper introduces our study of GUI for TV set based on a web browser. It will show how to get great efficiency when developing web related applications which uses web service APIs by taking advantage of web browser features. However, because current HTML standards do not grant access to TV functions, we have tried using WebSocket server. Used as a web service on TV, it allows not only to develop Web Browser based GUI, but even mobile devices to connect to the server and to use the TV functions provided through it. It also grants great benefit by allowing to share the HTML5 applications with both TV and mobile devices, thanks to the platform independency.

  • System architecture for heterogeneous web framework on mobile computing

This document proposes a new method to instantiate N number of web applications using a single User Interface (UI) process and N Web processes while utilizing a multi-process based web rendering engine named WebKit2 on Tizen platform. It also discusses the method of process pooling. Pooling is the method of resource management by grouping together resources for the purpose of maximizing the through put improving the overall system performance. The proposed approach reduces total number of processes required to execute multiple web applications and thereby considerably improves overall system performance. Usually, on Tizen the EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Library) based application life cycle management system mandates 1×1 mapping of each application's life cycle handling app core and its encapsulating process. Therefore, this approach also addresses managing multiple app cores in the context of a single UI process.

  • A study on educational administration inquire system based on mobile device

Recently, more and more people use smart mobile communication devices, such as smart phones and tablet computers. In institution of higher education, the student number owning mobile phones is far more than the one owning computers. There is a chance to transplant academic affairs management from computers to mobile phones to improve service quantity and management efficiency. In this article, we introduce an educational administration inquire system based on mobile device, which contains several functions: searching a teacher's course schedule, searching the scores of courses of students, etc. It may be used in many kinds of phones, for example, phones with WAP browsers and/or web browsers and android phones.

  • Secureweb: Protecting sensitive information through the web browser extension with a security token

The leakage of sensitive data occurs on a large scale and with increasingly serious impact. It may cause privacy disclosure or even property damage. Password leakage is one of the fundamental reasons for information leakage, and its importance is must be emphasized because users are likely to use the same passwords for different Web application accounts. Existing approaches use a password manager and encrypted Web application to protect passwords and other sensitive data; however, they may be compromised or lack accessibility. The paper presents SecureWeb, which is a secure, practical, and user- controllable framework for mitigating the leakage of sensitive data. SecureWeb protects users' passwords and aims to provide a unified protection solution to diverse sensitive data. The efficiency of the developed schemes is demonstrated and the results indicate that it has a low overhead and are of practical use.
