  • Design and Implementation of Cloud Service and APP for Drug-Drug Interaction

    Adverse Drug Reaction, also known as ADR, is a serious problem that should be avoid when using drugs. ADR might worsen the patient condition or to the extent where patients need to be hospitalized. This results in increasing medical expenses. One of the major reasons causing ADR is drug interaction. Patients with multiple chronic diseases under multiple treatments are the potential group of people at risk to develop drug-drug interactions. In addition, it is extremely difficult for doctors to prescribe medications when they cannot get access to the information of all the drugs and possible drug interactions when patients are under cross-disciplinary or even cross-hospital treatments. Hence, how to decrease the incidence rate of ADR is an important issue. In this study, we have established a cloud database of drug-drug interactions including common danger information and helpful suggestions. On the front page of our cloud database, users can simply enter the key words such as the drug generic name or its drug international classification code at the search box to access the information they need. Doctors and pharmacists can also use this database enquiry system on a daily basis to find out whether if their patients have any drug interactions problems. This can ultimately improve the overall drug safety for patients. Furthermore, our system comes with a mobile application (APP) version letting users to access our database instantly and conveniently.

    Patients often rely on a printed discharge summary for clinical information, post-discharge treatment, medications and other health activities, non- adherence to which may lead to readmission. With the active involvement of clinicians, medical informatics professionals and technical advisors a mobile prototype application has been designed and developed to provide a user- friendly presentation of clinical information aiming to increase the adherence of medical advice. We conducted a task-based usability and accuracy test and found that the average accuracy was 97%, time taken for each task to complete was 7.5s (average) and the overall navigation was termed as `easy to understand' by the users.

  • Cloud based automated irrigation and plant leaf disease detection system using an android application

    Due to drastic climatic changes and scarcity of water, the need for proper and sustainable irrigation methods is of high demand. The water demand for plants varies from place to place with the changes in soil content, texture, climatic factors and so on. The plants need to be irrigated according to their water requirements at that climatic conditions. As like as the water requirements, plant diseases are also a factor that keeps the plants not growing properly. Also, a variety of plant leaf diseases have also been detected nowadays. In this paper, a novel smart irrigation system has been proposed which can control the irrigation automatically using an android mobile application. Apart from this, the photos of plant leaves are captured and are sent to the cloud server, which is further processed and compared with the diseased plant leaf images in the cloud database. Based on the comparison a list of plant diseases suspected are given to the user via the android mobile application.

    This Study is about automatic reading of text for visually disabled persons or children. Usually, they often have difficulty reading letters even if they understand and know the language. Though this research, Using QR code and text compression algorithm SMAZ and TTS, it is possible to develop a system that automatically reads storybooks, location information guides, etc. to improve the learning effect of children and improve the living quality of visually disabled people.

    As much as mobile technology is enhanced and, more particularly, as much as the speed in which smart mobile devices introduced into the people's everyday lives, increases the possibilities of the usage of this technology in distance learning. New applications should definitely keep a thin balance among these technological possibilities, the widely used distance learning platforms and the pedagogical subsistence of the educational procedure. Furthermore, they must (i) support the position and make teacher's work easier, as a leader of the educational process, (ii) take into account the knowledge and creativity of the students, (iii) make a better adaptation of the educational material to the needs, goals, special interests etc. of the students. In this work, an innovative application of mobile technology in learning a foreign language - at this case Russian verbs of motion by Greek students - is presented.

The main goal of this project is to design and develop the HeartBeat+ mobile application on recording and monitoring blood pressure readings for hypertensive patients. This application keeps the records of the vital signs of the patient and tracks their daily food intake to help them identify what triggers their high blood pressure every time. Also, there is a web Application for doctors to monitor the status of their patients.

  • Hailing a ride with a rescue helicopter: A case study

    SmartHelp is a mobile application that enables users to immediately communicate who they are, what their emergency situation is and most importantly exactly where they are. Smart Decision Support is the emergency dispatch systems that utilize the information from SmartHelp to enhance the situation awareness of emergency call takers. This research documents and analyses a case story from an emergency situation that was reported using SmartHelp as well as some usage statistics, and shows that even though the method has its merits getting the population to use it is not straight forward.
