  • Toward Automating Crowd RE

    Crowd RE is an emerging avenue for engaging the general public or the so called crowd in variety of requirements engineering tasks. Crowd RE scales RE by involving, potentially, millions of users. Although humans are at the center of Crowd RE, automated techniques are necessary (1) to derive useful insights from large amounts of raw data the crowd can produce; and (2) to drive the Crowd RE process, itself, by facilitating novel workflows combining crowd and machine intelligence.To facilitate automated techniques for Crowd RE, first, we showcase a crowd-acquired dataset, consisting of requirements and their ratings on multiple dimensions for the smart homes application domain. Our dataset is unique in that it contains not only requirements, but also the characteristics of the crowd workers who produced those requirements including their demographics, personality traits, and creative potential. Understanding the crowd characteristics is essential to developing effective Crowd RE processes. Second, we outline key challenges involved in automating Crowd RE and describe, how our dataset can serve as a foundation for developing such automated techniques.

  • Self-Study: An Active Learning Approach

    Key focus of Technical Education system currently is Outcome Based Education (OBE). The main objective of OBE is to equip students with right skills and attitude in order to transform them into potentially excellent Engineers. OBE upholds self-learning, where the faculties facilitate students to achieve specified outcomes. There are multiple ways of implementing OBE. Few of the methods of implementing selfstudy are discussed in this paper, namely Project Based Learning and seminar. Further, Effective planning and assessment of outcomes of self-study is detailed. Students' feedback on introducing self- study component in a course is also presented.

  • How metaphorical door handle influence users' opening-door behaviors

    In this study, we clarify how a metaphorical door handle influence users' opening-door behaviors and what kansei value metaphorical door handle brings. To achieve this, we conducted a questionnaire with 12 door handles (made by 3D max) based on a sample of 200 students from Future University Hakodate. Each feature was evaluated on a scale from -2 to 2 according to 5 evaluation items. The data was computed as average scores, then visual information and principle component analysis were conducted for an integrated survey. As a results, we clarify that door handle with metaphorical design can influence users' opening-door behaviors. Otherwise, we found out a door handle with an appropriate metaphor expression is original and suitable to use.

  • Same same but different: perspectives on creativity workshops by design and business

    Most academics and practitioner agree that design and business are interdependent and complementing. But in its application, differences appear. Hence, this article describes the frictions between design and business philosophy in practice by describing and discussing different approaches to creativity workshops, which usually are design's and business' starting and meeting point for intentional innovation. For this, seven distinctive areas for the planning and execution of creativity workshops are compared and discussed. Finally, our conclusion sums the potential of both views up for further research.
