The effects of these are most marked at power factor zero, and as this is also the only power factor at which a load regulation curve can usually be experimentally determined satisfactorily, it is advocated to base regulation determinations upon the power factor zero load saturation, and the no-load saturation.

    During the last decade orthogonal fluxgates have been mainly manufactured using magnetic micro wire surrounded by a pick-up coil. This structure has several advantages, however it employs a finite length core as well as traditional orthogonal fluxgates based on cylindrical bulk core do. The measured field on axial direction is applied on a magnetic core with open magnetic circuit, which is therefore affected by the length of the wire. In this paper we compare sensor heads with wire-core having different length: the resulting noise is significantly lower for longer core (about 4 pT/√Hz at 1 Hz vs. 7 ÷ 8 for short wire). In fact, the terminations appear less saturable than the central part of the wire. Moreover, we show how the ends contribute less to the total sensitivity. Finally we model by FEM simulation the structure of the wire and we show that the different response of the wire to the axial field is fully described by demagnetizing effect. Therefore, we suggest to use a long wire keeping the termination if possible out of the pick-up coil in order to obtain the output signal from the more uniform part of the wire.

  • Power loss and demagnetization research for high speed permanent magnet electrical machine

    High speed permanent magnet machines (HSPMMs) have earned extensive interests in industrial application such as compressors, centrifuges and pumps due to their dramatic advantages of high power density, high efficiency and compact size [1-2]. However, high rotating speed and small size also brings challenge, as high frequency magnetic field induces large power loss density, and thermal dissipation condition becomes poorer with the compact size. In this paper, a MW rate, 18000 rpm HSPMM for compressor application is designed and researched by Finite element method (FEM). It is a 27 slots, 4 pole machine structure with high strength carbon fiber sleeve applied around the surface-mounted PM poles for mechanical integrity during high speed rotation.

    In this paper, magnetic properties of Sm-Fe-N thick film magnets prepared by aerosol deposition method were investigated. The demagnetisation curve of an isotropic Sm-Fe-N films deposited for 4 min on a SiO/sub 2/ substrate was studied. The magnetic properties were measured by VSM after applying a pulsed field around 4T, and microstructures were observed by XRD, SEM and TEM.

    The generalized /spl delta/m/sub a/ curve obtained by the Fourier analysis of the first magnetization and major hysteresis loop is analyzed within the frame of a generalized moving Preisach model. Analytical expressions of the Fourier coefficients are obtained when the mean field interactions are negligible. Experimental and simulated /spl delta/m and /spl delta/m/sub a/ curves are obtained for commercial particulate recording tapes. The condition is established for using the generalized curves instead of the classical ones in particulate media.
