  • SCC: Storage Compression Consensus for Blockchain in Lightweight IoT Network

    A centralized IoT network has a problem of data centralization because data is stored in a center. A blockchain is emerging as a solution to solve the problem in the IoT network by storing blocks to each device. However, lightweight IoT devices cannot store all of the blockchain due to their low storage capacity. We propose storage compression consensus (SCC) algorithm which compresses a blockchain in each device to ensure the storage capacity. When a lightweight device does not have enough storage space, the device processes the SCC to compress the blockchain. We implemented simulations to compare between the SCC and the existing consensus algorithm. As a result, the proposed SCC reduced the storage capacity of stored blockchain by 63% compared to the existing algorithm.

  • The Research on the Incentive Method of Consortium Blockchain Based on Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant

    In this paper, we use the credit mechanism of E-commerce platform to evaluate the transaction subject as user reviews, and evaluate the credit degree of the blockchain nodes based on the consensus algorithm of the consortium blockchain as node reviews, then associate the node credit score consisting of user and node reviews with the transaction cost to substitute the incentive effect of the block reward for ledger maintenance. According to the score-pricing strategy we will introduce later, this incentive method can ameliorate the problem of too concentrated bookkeeping permissions and improve the initiative of the accounting node.

    Average consensus has significant applications in dynamic load balancing and cooperative control of vehicle formations, where all the agents receive information from neighboring agents via communication network and update their states to achieve an agreement. However, this approach would result in an undesirable disclosure on the initial states of agents to their neighbors. In this paper, we propose an accurate privacy preserving average consensus (APPAC) algorithm, where all the agents independently generate and transmit random numbers based on Paillier cryptosystem to conceal their initial states. Under the proposed APPAC algorithm, the accurate average consensus is indeed achieved. Besides, the necessary and sufficient conditions that initial states can be inferred are also discussed. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Application of Consensus Algorithm for Power Dispatch in Autonomous Microgrid

    Microgrid consists of conventional generators, energy storage systems, distributed generators (DGs) such as wind power and photo voltaic (PV) power generation units and their respective control devices. Integration of these DGs with the grid causes technical issues such as voltage and frequency deviations. Microgrid operates in both modes - grid connected as well as islanded mode. But these unwarranted deviations are predominantly observed in the islanded mode wherein the microgrid must maintain its own active power supply-demand balance. In order to minimize these deviations, different control strategies have been implemented. Owing to several disadvantages of different types of centralized control strategies, this work has adopted the distributed control scheme for power dispatch in microgrid that controls the unwarranted deviations in the microgrid network in the islanded mode.

  • Resilient Consensus of Discrete-Time Complex Cyber-Physical Networks under Deception Attacks

    This paper considers the resilient consensus problems of discrete-time complex cyber-physical networks under F-local deception attacks. A resilient consensus algorithm, where extreme values received are removed by each node, is firstly introduced. By utilizing the presented algorithm, a necessary and sufficient condition to ensure resilient consensus in the absence of trusted edges is then provided by means of network robustness. We further generalize the notion of network robustness and present the necessary and sufficient condition for the achievement of resilient consensus in the presence of trusted edges. In addition, we show that through appropriately assigning the trusted edges, the resilient consensus can be reached under arbitrary communication network. At last, the validity of the theoretical findings is demonstrated by simulation examples.

  • A practical approach to consensus based control of multi-agent systems

    Consensus based control of multi-agent systems has a widespread applications in many fields. For example, autonomous computing, wireless sensor networks and robotics etc. It has several interesting results for clustering in data mining and Economics dispatch problem in distributed electric generation. A lot of theoretical analysis have been applied for such problems using consensus approach but still a practical approach to consensus based control of multi-agent systems is needed. This paper presents theoretical as well as practical systems for smart grid using consensus algorithm. Economic dispatch problem which is the major issue in smart grid is resolved through distributed consensus approach. For experimental purpose, a framework of Arduino IDE is selected for analysis, communication and simulation. Each Arduino board is an intelligent and autonomous agent that is in communication with all its neighbour's nodes for adapting changes in demand and generation of power in Smart grid. Moreover, a dynamically changing behaviour of the systems is also in focus of this paper.

  • MOCA: A Scalable Consensus Algorithm Based on Cellular Automata

    In recent years, with Bitcoin taking the lead, the blockchain technology has been put in the spotlight as it introduced a method for multiple parties to achieve consensus without trust. Nevertheless, the according application is constrained due to its limitations in scalability. In this paper, we proposed a highly scalable consensus model based on majority voting cellular automata, namely the MOCA consensus, with a distinctive blockchain-based distributed ledger in which the state change of each node depends on its neighbors. MOCA consensus origins from the zero-temperature Ising model with spontaneous magnetization achieving scalability of number of nodes with high probability Byzantine fault tolerance.

  • Consensus Tracking Control of Switched Stochastic Nonlinear Multiagent Systems via Event-Triggered Strategy

    In this paper, the consensus tracking problem is investigated for a class of continuous switched stochastic nonlinear multiagent systems with an event- triggered control strategy. For continuous stochastic multiagent systems via event-triggered protocols, it is rather difficult to avoid the Zeno behavior by the existing methods. Thus, we propose a new protocol design framework for the underlying systems. It is proven that follower agents can almost surely track the given leader signal with bounded errors and no agent exhibits the Zeno behavior by the given control scheme. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the new design techniques.

  • Proof-of-Authentication for Scalable Blockchain in Resource-Constrained Distributed Systems

    Resource -constrained distributed systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing and fog computing are deployed for real-time monitoring and evaluation. Current security solutions are problematic when there is a centralized controlling entity. The blockchain provides decentralized security architectures using proof-of-work (PoW). Proof-of-work is an expensive process for IoT and edge computing due to the deployment of resource-constrained devices. This paper presents a novel consensus algorithm called Proof-of- Authentication (PoAh) to replace Proof-of-Work and introduce authentication in such environments to make the blockchain application-specific. This paper implemented the Proof-of-Authentication system to evaluate its sustainability and applicability for the IoT and edge computing. The evaluation process is conducted in both simulation and real-time testbeds to evaluate performance. Finally, the process of Proof-of-Authentication and its integration with blockchain in resource-constrained distributed systems is discussed. Our proposed PoAh, while running in limited computer resources (e.g. single-board computing devices like the Raspberry Pi) has a latency in the order of 3 secs.

  • Distributed Cooperative Control for Multiple DC Electric Springs with Novel Topologies Applied in DC Microgrid

    DC electric spring (DCES) has been proposed for improving the power quality and voltage stability of DC microgrid. In this paper, a distributed cooperative control is applied for multiple DCESs with the recently proposed novel topology. The novel DCES is composed of DC/DC three port converter (TPC), bi-directional buck-boost converter (BBC) and battery system, while the BBC and battery system form the energy storage system of DCES. The distributed cooperative control for multiple DCESs, including the primary control and secondary control, is mainly used to realize the power allocation of multiple DCESs, local voltage stability and the consensus of DC-bus voltages and state- of-charges (SOCs) of battery among DCESs. The primary voltage control, including the phased-shift control, decoupling control and droop control, is used to regulate the local voltage of each DCES. The secondary control based on consensus algorithm, including control of DC-bus voltage and battery SOC, can regulate the DC-bus voltage reference and realize the SOC balance of batteries among DCESs.
