2020 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII)

IEEE/SICE SII is the premier symposium series presenting the state of the art and future perspectives of System integration, where industry experts, researchers, and academics share ideas and experiences surrounding frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions and applications.2020 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integrations (SII 2020) will be as the 12th symposium on system integration.   • A wireless acoustic wave sensor modified with biocompatible polymer for glucose monitoring

    The dynamic monitoring of vivo blood glucose acts an important role for diabetic patients to ensure timely healthcare and help to prevent from multiple complications caused by diabetes. This report describes a new non- enzyme glucose sensor based on wireless quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) that can be adapted for use in implanted devices. The chitosan-based enzyme-free boronic-acid glucose sensor improves biocompatibility considering for future vivo implanting. The optimal response of the sensor is in chitosan: 4-Formylphenylboronic acid (4-FPBA) =3:2. In the case of pH 7.4, the sensor has good linear response to glucose and selectivity of sensor to fructose, mannose, urea, and lactic acid performs well under physiological conditions. At physiological temperature, the linear response was also repeated and the average response time was about 4 min. The characteristics of this sensor indicate that it can be applied to dynamic monitoring of implantable blood glucose concentrations.

  • The Irradiation Effect Of Quartz Crystal Resonators By Picosecond Laser

    Quartz crystal resonators are important frequency control elements in electronic products with a complicated manufacturing process. During operations of a resonator, the coupling between the main functioning mode and the spurious modes should be avoided, since it will greatly increase the resistance and reduce the quality factor value, making it unable to work steadily and efficiently. In order to limit the spurious modes and reduce the mode couplings, an experimental study was conducted on the processing of quartz crystals by picosecond lasers. And we have investigated the effects of parameters of picosecond laser irradiation on properties of quartz crystal blanks. We irradiated both ends of quartz crystal blanks with a picosecond laser beam, and the laser power was controlled to limit the total input. Then we manufactured quartz crystal resonators with the laser processed blanks and measured their properties. After the quartz crystal blanks are irradiated with different power levels, the performance of the quartz crystal resonator does have some changes. Our goal is to explore the effects of laser irradiation on quartz crystals and optimize quartz crystal resonators with the selection of irradiation areas and power levels. With the noticeable effects from the first batch of test samples, we are studying novel irradiation schemes for more samples and measurements.

It was developed for the personal exposure monitoring.When the amount of gas flow rate is large, the Au-Hg amalgam reaction proceeds better and the frequency shift increases. Using a calibration curve, it is possible to determine the Hg gas concentration.This new detection system allows easy measurement of very low concentrations of Hg.

  • High Performance Flame-Made Ultraporous ZnO-Based QCM Sensor For Acetaldehyde

    Ultraporous ZnO films were deposited, by onestep flame spray pyrolysis, on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) devices. Gas sensing properties of the fabricated devices have been explored in the detection of acetaldehyde in air. The response to this target gas, recorded at room temperature, is fully reversible and fast. The metrological characterization, performed by recording the response of several devices with different loading of the ZnO sensing layer with acetaldehyde concentration values spanning from 64 ppm down to 1.25 ppm, showed good performance. These initial results give a promising approach for producing a simple and cost-effective sensor technology based on QCM devices working at room temperature.

  • An Analysis of Frequency-Temperature Relations of At-Cut Quartz Crystal Resonators By Finite Element Method With Comsol

    In order to study the frequency-temperature relations of AT-cut quartz crystal resonators, vibrations of the quartz crystal blank in the temperature field is analyzed by incremental thermal field theory. With the incremental thermals field equations, the mathematical models of thermal expansion coefficients and temperature, thermal elasticity coefficient and temperature, and density temperature coefficient and temperature are used. The thermal coefficient function model of quartz crystal is established by using the parametric model with the finite element simulation software COMSOL, and the impedance relations and harmonic frequency are analyzed at a given ambient temperature.

  • Development of quartz crystal microbalance based sensor for real-time ozone monitoring

    This paper presents the development of quartz crystal microbalance based sensor for the real-time monitoring of ozone (O3) in workplaces in the range of 10–100 ppbv (part per billion per volume). Quartz crystal microbalances are interesting because of their capability to detect the adsorption of gaseous compounds on the crystal coating. Here, we focused on the polybutadiene performance as coating material in terms of stability, sensibility and reproducibility under real conditions. Chemical sensors were exposed to low concentration of ozone in a dedicated controlled test atmosphere device in order to determine the influence of several parameters: temperature, humidity, concentration and sampling flow rate. Results show that our detection device can detect 7 ppb in few minutes and does not undergo decrease of sensibility under moisture.

  • Selective and Sensitive Detection of Limonene in Mango using Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Based Quartz Crystal Microbalance Sensor

    In this study, we present and discuss the sensing applicability of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as selective materials in piezoelectric quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors for detecting an important primary volatile compound, d-limonene present in varieties of mango. The proposed imprinted sensor is prepared from the copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and further imprinted with Limonene. The performance of the sensor has exemplified by reproducibility, repeatability and selectivity studies where the prepared sensor was found to have repeatability and reproducibility of 98.4% and 98.8%, respectively. The sensitivity of the sensor is 0.16 Hz/ppm within the sensing range of 1–1000 ppm. Additionally, the developed sensor can distinguish the resemble gas successfully with selectivity factor of 58.16%. Therefore MIP based recognition approach can be coupled to QCM sensing platform in order to sense qualitative aroma present in mango selectively.

  • Novel Cuts of Triply-Rotated Quartz Crystal for Resonators With Ideal Cubic Frequency-Temperature Relations

    A systematic method of searching novel cuts of quartz crystal is proposed to explain the discovery of the existing cuts including AT- and SC-cut, and a few popular cuts in products on market. It is also found that some curves on which the cuts have the same frequency-temperature relation as that of the AT- and SC-cut quartz resonators and the inflection temperature cover a quite wide range. Finally, using this method, we found a novel cut whose frequency- temperature relation is much better than the AT- and SC-cut quartz crystal resonators. The temperature range that the absolute value of frequency shifts is smaller than 10ppm for this novel cut from -70°C to 130°C and the frequency constant is 35% higher than the AT-cut resonator.
