The Frontiers in Education (FIE) Conference is a major international conference focusing on educational innovations and research in engineering and computing education. FIE 2019 continues a long tradition of disseminating results in engineering and computing education. It is an ideal forum for sharing ideas, learning about developments and interacting with colleagues inthese fields.

This conference presents excellent, novel, and contemporary papers covering all aspects of Data ? including Scientific Theory and Technology-Based Applications. New data analytic algorithms, technologies, and tools are sought to be able to manage, integrate, and utilize large amounts of data despite hardware, software, and/or bandwidth constraints; to construct models yielding important data insights; and, to create visualizations to aid in presenting and understanding the data. System development and integration needs to also adapt to these new algorithms, technologies, tools, and needs. This conference and its constituents support the development of technologies and applications for peaceful purposes to improve the human condition.

Speaker tracking for teleconferencing via user-worn binaural headset microphones in combination with a reference microphone array is proposed. The tracking is implemented with particle filtering based on maximum likelihood estimation of time-difference of arrival (TDOA) estimates. An importance function for prior weighting of the particles of silent conferees (i.e., “listeners”) is proposed. Experimental results from tracking three conferees in a meeting scenario are presented. The use of user-worn microphones in addition to a reference microphone array is shown to improve speaker distance estimation and overall tracking performance substantially. The importance function improved the tracking RMSE by 58% on average. The position tracking RMSE of the proposed method is about 0.11 m. This paper illustrates the robust performance of a new wide-area based global power system stabilizer (GPSS) using fuzzy logic control design approach. The superiority of fuzzy logic based power system stabilizers is illustrated first by comparing the performance of local conventional stabilizers CPSS with local fuzzy logic based stabilizers (LFPSS). Then an additional control loop is added to include a wide-area based fuzzy logic global stabilizer (GFPSS). Tbe LFPSS uses tbe generator speed deviation and the accelerating power as input signals to provide the stabilizing signals through the excitation systems of the generators to which they are connected to. On the other hand, the GFPSS is designed to act between coherent areas within a power system It uses the difference in the average speed deviation between any two connected coherent areas and the deviation in the tie-line active power transfer between these coherent areas as input control signals. It provides additional stabilizing signals to the generators within these coherent areas. The proposed control scheme is tested using the four machines two-area Kundur test system. The obtained results show the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed scheme in enhancing system stability.
An error has been pointed out in the author's paper (see Proc. 2nd IEEE Symp. on Logic in Computer Science, p.37-44 (1987)). It appears that there are programs without principal type schemes in the system in that paper.<>

The author states his purpose to be three-fold: 1. To discuss briefly certain elements in design that affect the character of the potential wave; 2. To show the effect of load and operating conditions on the no-load wave; 3. To give illustrations of the potential waves, — good, bad and indifferent, of generators, that actually supply the a-c. systems throughout the country. There are ninety illustrations in all; a study of these shows, in connection with the descriptions given, that the most perfect wave is obtained where the proper shading of the magnetic flux is obtained either by shaping the poles, in the case of definite pole machines, or the proper distribution of field winding, in the case of cylindrical rotor machines, together with an irregular, or more or less prime relation between the number of slots in the armature and number of poles.
