  • System Implementation and Delivery

    This chapter provides readers with the opportunity to learn about iterative and incremental implementation of software‐enabled physical systems. System implementation occurs during Phase 5 of the integrated‐iterative‐incremental (I3) system development model, which includes iterative‐incremental subphases. During each subphase, software engineers can use iterative development processes, as desired, to construct and procure the software elements needed to realize the software elements of system capabilities and other disciplinary engineers can use incremental development processes, as desired, to concurrently fabricate and procure the physical system elements needed for the same system capabilities. System delivery occurs in Phase 6, which includes system transition from the development environment to the operational environment and system validation in the operational environment. ISO/IEC/IEEE Standard 15288, augmented by ISO/IEC/IEEE Standard 12207 provides the basis for system implementation and delivery (ISO 2015, 2017). The chapter illustrates the correspondence between the I3 implementation and delivery phases and the 15288/12207 technical processes.

  • Automation of metabolic P system implementation in FPGA: A case study

    Metabolic P (MP) systems were proposed by V. Manca in 2005. They evolved from and are based on membrane computing, also known as P systems. P systems have been implemented already, however there are no known equivalent implementations of MP systems. We have developed software written in Python interpreted programming language to convert the MP system represented in simple text format to Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL). Then the generated VHDL component can be easily merged into supplementary code and implemented in a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). In the article the new automated implementation technique is shown to work well in two separate cases: the model of Glucose-Insulin interactions in the intravenous glucose tolerance test and the Non Photochemical Quenching process. This is represented by the calculation accuracy, speed and used resources parameters. We verified that the MP system VHDL code generation tool is valid for automated MP system implementation in FPGA.

  • Risk Assessment of Corporate Infocommunication Systems Projects Using Bayesian Networks

    The article deals with the problem of risk assessment associated with the introduction of ERP-systems as the basic component of corporate infocommunication systems. This problem is very urgent, as the percentage of the failure of ERP systems implementation projects up to 70%. The proposed model allows to assess the overall risk of such projects as a combination of individual types of risk. They, in turn, are evaluated based on the definition of the probability of the risk factors. The mathematical apparatus used in this case is the Bayesian network of trust. The constructed model also makes it possible to recalculate the probabilities of individual nodes-factors based on the new facts about the state of the system. Application of the approach to the considered project of ERP implementation made it possible to identify the most significant risk factors: lack of a system development strategy, poor management of business process reengineering and inattention to staff resistance Allocation of groups of risk factors and evaluation of each of them on based probabilities more simple components make it possible to choice the strategy priority management development of ERP-systems.

  • Results and challenges of Russia's integration into Bologna Process

    Russia joined the Bologna Process in September 2003. In accordance with the Declaration, the Russian Federation undertook to implement the basic principles of the Bologna Agreement by the year 2010. Almost five years have passed since 2010, a moment when Russia was supposed to finalise reforms of its Higher Education System within the context of the Bologna Process. The purpose of this article is to analyze the results and challenges of the Bologna process implementation in the Russian education system. Currently, most of the key Bologna Process objectives are not achieved in the Russian Higher Education System.

  • Critical success factors enhancing enterprise resource planning systems implementation in Jordanian SMEs

    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is designed to model and automate basic processes across the organization over a centralized database sheet, or any type of tools that are used by the organization and pays a lot of attention in implementing ERP modules. The success of ERP system does not require the demolishing of the traditional ERP system models, but instead re-plat forming and hosting them. ERP application is often viewed as a strategic investment that can provide significant competitive advantage with positive return thus contributing to the company's revenue and growth. Despite such strategic importance given to ERP the implementation success to achieve the desired goal has been viewed disappointing. Industry encountered stories failures in ERP initiatives, despite numerous benefits. This study review the literature in ERP focusing on the trends or factors which may help future ERP initiatives achieve greater success and less failure.

  • Assessment of the quality of higher professional education on the basis of professional and social accreditation

    Professional-public accreditation is aimed at developing a system of recommendations for improving the quality of educational programs in higher education. As is known in experts on professional-public accreditation includes representatives of employers, education and students. Nevertheless, due to the lack of regulations and forms of reports, it can be observed that in a number of reporting documents there is no information about the relationship of the educational institution with employers. In addition, there is no single database on which educational programs and in which professional and public expert communities have been accredited. Thus, the effectiveness of professional-public accreditation is currently low. To increase the importance of this procedure, it is necessary to increase the importance of employers `and students' unions when implementing procedures for professional and public accreditation.

  • An integrated energy management strategy for the deep-level gold mining industry

    This study investigated the potential for using the ISO 50001 energy management standard in the deep-level gold mining industry to reduce electricity costs. The standard provides a framework for an organisation to develop an energy management system and has proven successful in other industries. Using the Plan-Do-Check-Act framework an energy management system was developed for a deep-level gold mineshaft. An energy policy was developed by the energy management team with a goal of achieving a 20% electrical energy saving. Implementation of various initiatives using the ISO framework allowed for the reduction of electrical energy. Checking the electrical energy reduction by means of established measurement and verification methods showed a final energy reduction of 18.5%. The financial value thereof was approximately R75 million per annum when calculated with the 2015/2016 Eskom electricity tariff. However, this was below the 20% target and lead to a review of the energy policy and the formation of new action plans. Thus, the nature of the iSO 50001 standard ensures continually improving energy management and performance.
