At the end, a case study has been demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed framework using a library management system.

  • Web-based development framework for customizing Java-based business logic of SaaS application

    Tenants lease business applications in form of SaaS (Software as a Service) and their administrators are involved in only adding and modifying the data- processing code in order to operate their specific logics by using a web-based development framework. Especially, customizing of business logics of SaaS applications makes a tenant administrator easy and rapid development by focusing on the data-processing code without concerning about the designing application, administrating database system, and making other additional implementation code. Therefore, the issues of customizing business logics are interesting and challengeable in the SaaS domain. In this paper, we propose the web-based development framework to generate custom business logics of SaaS applications and the runtime engine to process the changes based on the multi- tenant execution environment. The generating and executing custom business logics is core feature and scheduled to be integrated with the SaaS platform, SaaSpia™, which has been developed in ETRI from 2009.

  • Measuring Business Logic Complexity in Software Systems

    Many organizations adopt software to support their business process and business logic is embedded in their systems. To meet ever-changing business needs, business logic in software must be continuously changed and renewing the whole system as known as software modernization is performed for systems running for a long time. When modernizing especially large scale system, many developers are involved to deal with large amount of code. To support software modernization, project management is needed and managers use volume information such as software metrics to find hard things, estimate efforts and qualities though when analyzing business logic, existing metrics are not useful because existing metrics do not distinguish business logic from other infrastructure activities. To solve this problem we define business logic complexity to capture business logic from the source code and to quantify how hard it is to understand. First we identify business logic by excluding format checks and by using input and output data in condition and calculation statements. Next, we quantify the degree of complexity of business logic. When making decisions about improving applications, our method makes it possible to prioritize the aspects of the business logic that are complex and hard to understand.

  • A novel approach for evaluation of changes in web services business logic

    In today's ever-changing Business world, increasing market demand and meeting it through service technology has made change management an inevitable one. Although there are many change management issues and solutions, there is no proper support for efficient change evaluation and monitoring. In this paper, we propose a dependency analysis approach for evaluating the changes specified by the analyst in an effective manner. This measure of change evaluation ensures that the business analyst has a direct control over the changes he makes and provides a sophistic environment which notifies the analyst about the outcome of change progress in a meaningful way. We propose a set of change factors based on which the dependency relation existing between the business rules, functions and parameters are analyzed. These change factors evaluated as part of the change evaluation leads the change management process in efficient and controlled manner. We develop a prototype system of the proposed model to demonstrate its effectiveness. We also conduct an experimental study to assess the performance of the change management along with the change measure as an output.

  • Smart service: SOA business logic connectivity adaptation

    Nowadays, service connectivity adaptation grows to be one of the most important topic in SOC (Service Oriented Computing). Due to the increasing in accessing the business processes of the information systems, there is a lot of traffic to a specific part of its business logic (BL) that causes Bottlenecked. To solve this traffic problem, we need to adapt the business logic and the services connectivity. The adapted business logic makes the critical services as a common service that can be reached automatically. In this paper, we present a new framework to adapt the connectivity of the business process workflow. The main components of this proposed framework are the workflow parser, the smart service core, and the business logic generator. Finally, we illustrate the usage of the framework and the prototype by using a real case study obtained from a banking system.

    Business logic extraction is a very important concept in the realm of object oriented software engineering as it deals with reusability to a great extent. Proper reusability of existing systems (legacy systems) to accommodate required changes thereby transforming existing systems into new ones is an important consideration of object oriented development. This yields several significant advantages such as cost reduction, scheduled development and minimal learning overhead etc. In this paper, we propose a novel method for extracting business logic from existing system. The method developed for extracting business logic in an existing system follows a static-analysis based approach. The method relies on analyzing the source code of the system independently from any input which requires an execution of the system.
