What Are CSA Group Standards?

CSA Group Standards are technical documents developed by the CSA Group that specify requirements for the design, performance, safety, and testing of products, systems, and processes across more than 50 subject areas. Produced through a consensus-based committee process involving industry representatives, regulators, academic experts, and consumer advocates, these standards serve as the foundation for product certification, regulatory compliance, and safe engineering practice in Canada and many international markets. CSA Group holds accreditation from both the Standards Council of Canada as a recognized standards development organization and from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which enables its standards to carry formal standing in both Canadian and US regulatory contexts. When provincial, territorial, or federal regulations in Canada adopt a CSA standard by reference, compliance with the standard becomes legally required.
