    Discussions with a number of Nuclear Utilities revealed that equipment qualified for 10 to 40 years in the harsh environment of the plant was being assigned shelf lives of only 5 to 10 years in the benign environment of the warehouse, and then the materials were being trashed. One safety-related equipment supplier was assigning a 10-year qualified life, from date of shipment, with no recognition of the difference in the aging rate in the plant vs. that in the warehouse. Many suppliers assign shelf lives based on product warranty considerations rather than actual product degradation. An EPRI program was initiated to evaluate the methods used to assign shelf lives and to adapt the Arrhenius methodology, used in equipment qualification, to assign technically justifiable shelf lives. Temperature is the main factor controlling shelf life; however, atmospheric pressure, humidity, ultraviolet light, ozone and other atmospheric contaminants were also considered. A list of 70 representative materials was addressed in the program. All of these were found to have shelf lives of 14 years to greater than 60 years, except for 19 items. For 18 of these items, there was no data available except for the manufacturer's recommendation.<<ETX>>

  • Degradation analysis of 1900 PV modules in a hot-dry climate: Results after 12 to 18 years of field exposure

    If the annual degradation rate is known and is assumed to be linear for a PV module throughout its lifetime, then the lifetime can easily be calculated as the degradation limit is typically set at the time of procurement or the project initiation. The degradation rate is dependent on the module design, installation configuration and the environmental conditions of the site. The degradation rate of the individual modules in a module-string may also be influenced by the operating system voltage, grounding polarity (positive, negative or floating) and by the module position in the module-string; these degradations are commonly referred as PID, Potential Induced Degradation. The study presented in this paper was carried out in a PV power plant located in a hot-dry climate of Tempe, Arizona. This study was initiated to determine the annual degradation losses/rates of field aged modules and analyze if these losses are caused or influenced by the PID effects. In this study, about 1900 field exposed modules between 12 and 18 years from several manufacturers were evaluated. This includes modules with different construction schemes (glass/glass or Glass/polymer). In order to carry out this evaluation, the PV systems were shut down, the individual modules were electrically isolated from the string (but not physically removed from the installation) and the I-V curves of every individual module were collected on clear sunny days over several months. Assuming a linear degradation and the conventional 20-year warranty with 20% degradation limit from the nameplate rating, more than 80% of the tested modules in this hot-dry climate do not meet the warranty expectation.

  • Financial Security of Enterprises Under Uncertain Operating Environment

    In the process of one enterprise's operation, it may face variable situations, including good things and bad things. The combination of all situations is called operating environment. This is just the focus of this paper: how does the operating environment affect one enterprise's financial security. Firstly, this paper illustrated the definitions of operating environment and financial security. Secondly, the relationships between operating environment and financial security are discussed in this paper. Thirdly, some measures were studied in this paper that are used to reduce the effects of operating environment. Finally, this paper given several suggestions about how to deal with the risks resulted from the operating environment. The conclusion of this paper is that one enterprise must pay more attention to the operating environment, which is helpful to its growth in the future.

  • The optimal maintenance policy proportion and used period for the repairable warranty equipment using fixed-failure-rate-reduction method

    In this study, we define the time interval [0, w) as warranty period and the time interval [w, w+m(w/n+1)] as the outside of warranty period. The manufacturers provide the customer with preventive maintenance as well as repair policy for free when the equipment was used in the warranty period; consumers need to pay for the same degree of preventive maintenance when the equipment was used in the outside of warranty period. In this research, the method of preventive maintenance is the fixed failure rate reduction. After each implementation of preventive maintenance which reduced the failure rate, there is the level of imperfect preventive maintenance of limited proportion. The proportion of maintenance was divided into a fixed maintenance proportion. We obtained the optimal number of maintenance, the optimal proportion of maintenance degree, the cost of preventive maintenance for fixed maintenance proportion model. We also used the decision-making model to find the optimal number of preventive maintenance, the preventive maintenance cost for fixed maintenance proportion model, when the equipment is used in the outside of the warranty period. In the final, numerical and sensitivity analysis verify the results.

  • Analysis of the Reality of the Cross-border RMB Circulation in the Vietnam, Laos, and Burma Sub-region

    In resent years, promoted by the border trade, the cross-border circulation of RMB , what has been involved in the capital items of some countries has come into being accordingly. However, in view of the current economic situation in China, the Internationalization of RMB has not matured yet, and at most it can only be regarded as a course of gradual advancement. Only the regionalization of RMB is the applicable objective to be established for China in the near future. Especially, it is high time to analysis the phenomenon and causes of deposit volume of RMB in the Vietnam, Laos, and Burma sub-region. Therefore, this thesis is under the guidance of econometrics way, gives a systematical analysis and explains the relation between RMB deposit volume and other factors in the sub-region

  • Supply Chain Cooperation Based Warranty Optimization

    The game of warranty service and retail prices between the supplier and manufacture was analyzed from the point of supply chain. The system profit with no cooperation between the retailer and the manufacture was less than that with centralized decision. A cooperation strategy was proposed. Through this strategy, the profit of the whole system is the same as that of centralized decision. Whatpsilas more, the profits of both the retailer and the manufacture are not less than that of decentralized condition.

  • Sensitivity of manufacturer and buyer’s risks for lifetime warranty policies

    Lifetime warranties is becoming popular as they provide assurance to buyer for longer reliable service and greater customer peace of mind for the whole life of the product. By offering a lifetime warranty, both the manufacturer and the buyer are exposed to uncertainties and risks of warranty pricing and product performance during the lifetime of the product. This paper analyses the sensitivity of risk preferences models developed by Chattopadhyay and Rahman [1] in finding the optimal warranty price through the use of the manufacturer's utility function for manufacturer's profit and the buyer's utility function for repair cost. The sensitivity of the warranty price is analysed with numerical example with respect to the factors such as the buyer's and the manufacturer/dealer's risk preferences, buyer's anticipated and manufacturer's estimated product failure intensity, the buyer's loyalty to the original manufacturer/dealer in repairing failed product and the buyer's repair costs for unwarranted products.
