Using this model a new method of control parameter assignment is presented providing a prescribed oscillation damping (or characteristic equation roots) of the control process. The total differential of system characteristic functions and Lagrange multipliers are applied in the system synthesis. The design procedure is demonstrated on a heat transfer control.<<ETX>>

  • A state-space modeling of nonideal DC-DC converters

    A model based on practical switches with finite turn-on, turn-off, delay, storage, and reverse recovery times is proposed. The effects of switching on the state equation, system stability, DC gain and efficiency are shown for the boost, buck, and buck-boost converters. The effect of current-based switching- time variation on system stability effect, and the effect of average duty cycle variation on system stability is considered. DC gains of the boost and buck-boost converters are shown to be greatly degraded by switching loss. It is also shown that no additional resistance is generated by switching, in contradiction to previous work. It is found that the buck converter is superior to the others from the viewpoints of systems stability and DC gain, and the efficiencies of all the converters are maximized when the DC gain is close the unity. Previous results are improved and unified using state-space modeling. Analysis results are very simple in spite of the complex switching waveforms. This modeling approach is believed to be very useful for the high- frequency or high-power applications where switching effects become dominant.<<ETX>>

  • On an operator theory of linear systems with pure and distributed delays

    A representation theory based on convolution operations is developed for a large class of linear systems containing pure and distributed delays in state and control. In terms of this framework a necessary and sufficient condition and a sufficient condition are given for functional (null) controllability. The conditions involve the generation of modules defined over a convolution ring of functions.

  • Asymptotic disturbance attenuation problem for sampled-data systems

    A class of linear shift-invariant discrete systems with disturbances acting on the state variables is considered. Disturbances are assumed to be energy signals. Using singular perturbation theory, a high-gain feedback controller is designed to limit the energy of the disturbances felt at the output.   • A New Assessment Method for System Reliability Based on Dynamic Fault Tree

    According to the deficiency of traditional Markov chain approach in dynamic fault tree analysis, a new modular method for system reliability analysis is proposed. This paper focuses on dividing the fault tree of system into independent subtrees using a linear-time algorithm, and the processing method for different subtrees: Binary decision diagram solution for static subtrees and Bayesian Network solution for dynamic subtrees, respectively. In addition, an approach is also provided for mapping some dynamic logic gates into discrete-time Bayesian network. At last, the modular method has been applied to assess the reliability of a satellite key device and the results have shown that the proposed method can overcome the state explosion problem, and is useful for assessing the reliability of large and complex systems.

  • An algorithm for continuous-time state space identification

    We have developed a system identification algorithm to fit continuous-time state-space models to data. The methodology includes a continuous-time operator translation, permitting an algebraic reformulation and the use of subspace and realization algorithms. The new approach has proved effective in identification and modeling of ultrasonic echo applications.
