In this paper, we study the problem of rule extraction from data sets using the rough set method. For inconsistent rules due to improper selection of split-points during discretization, and/or to lack of information, we propose two methods to remove their inconsistency based on irregular decision tables. By using these methods, inconsistent rules are eliminated as far as possible, without affecting the remaining consistent rules. Experimental test indicates that use of the new method leads to an improvement in the mean accuracy of the extracted rules.

It discusses the MIMO systems as diversity systems and space‐division multiplexing (SDM) transmission placing emphasis on explanation of their principles. The chapter gives a short introductory description of automatic equalizers and applications to mobile radio channels. To cope with errors in digital transmission, it discusses two countermeasures, namely, error correction and retransmission. Trellis‐coded modulation is a combined coding and modulation technique: coding and modulation are integrated to achieve better error rate performance without compromising bandwidth. Interference cancellation must be adaptive since both the interfering signal and the desired signal are time varying in mobile radio communications. The most straightforward system for voice coding is the usual analog‐to‐digital conversion at periodic sampling instants.

We show that FS experiences only a minor performance drop compared to Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) but makes cooperation easy to implement at the link layer. In addition, we provide numerical examples of SNR thresholds that can immediately be applied to choose the transmit power and rate in IEEE 802.15-based cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs).
Both manufacturers and users of memory components now accept the use of redundancy to improve yields. Currently, the most common practice is to replace defective elements by programming fusible links. As memory densities increase and device physics contraints become more severe, fault tolerant techniques are likely to diversify. For example, on-chip error correction has been employed to correct both hard defects and soft errors. The alternative fault tolerant techniques, their merits and limitations, and their impact on the characteristics of future memory components will be discussed.
Biometrics: Solutions for Security and Authentication
This course will provide an overview of the study of methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon one or more intrinsic physical or behavioral traits. The fundamentals of biometrics and biometric systems will be presented. The course will delve into why biometrics is a solution for security and authentication. Face, gait and ECG based biometrics will be covered. Biometrics and encryption will also be discussed, and the course will conclude with a discussion of future steps.
