  • Welcome message from CE society vice president of conference

I welcome you to the inaugural Global Conference on Consumer Electronics-Japan (GCCE 2012). This new conference was planned by Prof Hase from Japan and myself. The IEEE Consumer Electronics Society's flag-ship conference, the ICCE in Las Vegas, which is held in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), is the model for his event. Our surveys showed that there is a need for additional IEEE CE Society conferences. We had no real presence in Europe or Asia. Yet the demand for opportunities to network for consumer electronics professionals is real. To help fill that need, we decided to build a series of related conferences based on the ICCE Las Vegas. Like in Vegas, the GCCE-Japan Conference is affiliated with a major Consumer Electronics Show, the CEATEC. We are grateful for the support we received from the Show organisers and we look forward to many years of continuous collaboration. The success of the GCCE is also due to the support of all the Japanese Professional Societies related to Consumer Electronics activities, which have been very supportive of our conference. We look forward to many years of mutually beneficial collaboration.

  • A serious game to improve human relationships in patients with neuro-psychological disorders

The project described in this paper consists of designing and implementing a multimedia application within the framework of Serious Games. The main aim is to analyze the behavior and to promote certain social skills (conversation, negotiation...) of people with Neurological development Disabilities. The treatment has been planned at three levels. Each level treats a characteristic related to socialization, integration and the expression of feelings. For this purpose, various scenarios have been described (the city, the school and the home) and the user has to pass the test related to social situations. To interact and play this game, people (children and teenagers in this approach) use the Wiimote, chosen due to its simplicity and usability. The results produced by the game have been saved in a database to be analyzed by the instructors at a later date. Not only technological results have been analyzed, but the opinions of users and specialists taking part in the application's validation and piloting have also been taken into account.
