    The quest for a robust, reliable open standard for wireless communication which would support manufacturing applications, required a thorough understanding of the channel characteristics. At the time this work was undertaken (summer 1989), relatively little literature on factory environments existed. In addition the published tests recorded received power and did not measure the phase, but assumed that it was randomly distributed. The test at G.M. measured both amplitude and phase to provide the complete impulse response. Given this impulse response, it is possible to evaluate the performance of any type of bandwidth limited modulation in this channel. This paper presents the measurement techniques, the results and a brief analysis of: instantaneous and average power; large scale fading characteristics; delay spread characteristics; temporal variance of the channel; analysis of noise samples; analysis of the impact of impulse noise on barker sequence correlation peaks.<<ETX>>

For easy-to-use management, features of ad-hoc construction and low power management are also required. Our research is to develop architecture and technologies that satisfy these features. In this demonstration, we will explain core technologies and industrial applications that we developed.

  • FIPA-ACL based agent communications in plant automation

    Intelligent software agent technology is used in plant automation based on distributed system (PABADIS) project to distribute MES functions throughput the automation system and ERP. Communications between PABADIS agents are based on method invocation. The client agent creates the proxy object of server agent and invokes service provided by server agent locally. As a reason that agent communication language is assumed to be able to best handle the inter- agent communication, we try to use agent communication language to implement communications between PABADIS agents. In order to comply with the finished part of project in which Grasshopper is used as agent developing platform, FIPA ACL is adopted. In this paper, we analyze the finished PABADIS communications, present some PABADIS special ACL messages, and implement some communications in FIPA ACL supported by Grasshopper.

  • IoT-based defect predictive manufacturing systems

    Recently, attempts have been made to change the paradigm of existing plants by applying ICT to the manufacturing industry. It can be seen as an extension of factory automation, which used to automate production facilities and unmanned work in the past, but Smart Factory is an advanced model to predict and respond to the future situation. In this paper, we propose a controller that is optimized for a specific task so that manufacturing process data can be acquired from production facilities in real - time by a sensor node based on wireless sensor network and a gateway with wired/wireless interface. And describes the design and implementation of smart factory service model.

  • Comprehensive Automation Information Platform in Power Plant Based on Fieldbus Technology

    The important significance of comprehensive automation information platform (CAIP) and the implementation by means of FCS are elaborated. Several solutions to implement CAIP in power plants in different condition are researched on and analyzed. The network architecture of CAIP based on fieldbus is proposed, functions and the roles of each part in the architecture are elaborated; two schemes for the implementation of the communication subsystem between management level, supervision level and field level, which is the key part in the implementation of CAIP in power plant, are proposed, merits and problems are pointed out for and the selection principle of the schemes is expounded. Operation practice with the proposed solution showed a good result and improved production efficiency in power plant. Significant economic benefit is achieved.

  • Configuration of distributed time-critical fieldbus systems

    Summary form only given. Fieldbus is the generic term given to a digital communication system linking field devices and control systems in industrial plants. The OLCHFA (open, low-cost, time-critical, wireless fieldbus architecture) project, addresses three industrial needs: wireless data communication, time-critical communication and easy network configuration and management. The development includes the design and manufacture of prototype fieldbus nodes incorporating custom hardware to assist fieldbus-wide clock synchronisation as well as communication protocol processing based upon the French national standard fieldbus FIP. To ease configuration and set-up of the OLCHFA network, a graphical configuration tool has been developed, CONTOUR (configuration tool for the OLCHFA fieldbus system with graphical user interface). This tool provides the facility to define the network by simply attaching stations to the bus and then setting the relevant parameters. Default values are offered wherever possible. Special care has also been taken for the parameterization of variables, which are the central communication objects in the OLCHFA fieldbus.<<ETX>>
