Based on this, this paper expounds the intelligent radar countermeasure method, and compares the difference between intelligent radar countermeasure and traditional radar countermeasure (TRC). The basic principle of reinforcement learning (RL) is introduced. For the situation that number of working modes is unknown, intelligent radar countermeasure based on reinforcement learning is proposed, and the algorithm steps are given. The simulation results show that the intelligent radar jamming method can independently learn and make decision intelligently according to the jamming effect, which improves the adaptability of the radar countermeasure system, and can resist the multi-working mode radar simultaneously.

Existing analytical model-based security optimization strategies do not prevail for the following reasons: (i) none of these model-based methods offer a way to find optimal security solution in the absence of probability assignments to the model, (ii) methods scale badly as size of the system to model increases and (iii) some methods suffer as they use attack trees (AT) whose structure does not allow for the inclusion of countermeasures while others translate the non-state-space model (e.g., attack response tree) into a state-space model hence causing state-space explosion. In this paper, we use a novel AT paradigm called attack countermeasure tree (ACT) whose structure takes into account attacks as well as countermeasures (in the form of detection and mitigation events). We use greedy and branch and bound techniques to study several objective functions with goals such as minimizing the number of countermeasures, security investment cost in the ACT and maximizing the benefit from implementing a certain countermeasure set in the ACT under different constraints. We cast each optimization problem into an integer programming problem which also allows us to find optimal solution even in the absence of probability assignments to the model. Our method scales well for large ACTs and we compare its efficiency with other approaches.

  • Simulation-based effectiveness analysis of acoustic countermeasure for ship formation

    The acoustic countermeasures of a ship formation affect the survivability of all ships in the formation. In order to improve the capability of ship formation countering acoustic homing torpedoes, the effectiveness of acoustic countermeasure for a typical ship formation playing against multiple torpedoes are focused on. The combat environment and combat process are described. The movement models of torpedo, submarine and acoustic decoy are established. The countermeasure effectiveness of both maneuvering avoidance and acoustic decoys is simulated and analyzed. The influences of target bearing, ship span and torpedo homing range on countermeasure effectiveness are compared. The simulation result will provide support for the acoustic countermeasure of ship formation.

  • Design and verification of multi-octave active countermeasure system using novel triple closed loop simulation

    Highly intelligent search and tracking radars operating in various frequency bands are integral part of defense system against long range ballistic missiles. Frequency and polarization agile active countermeasure system facilitates deception and delayed discrimination & target acquisition by these threat radars. This paper presents design and verification of a multi octave expendable active countermeasure system using novel triple closed loop system simulation and measurement methodology implemented via software- hardware-software (SW-HW-SW) interface. A virtual radar-channel-counter- measure-channel-radar scenario was generated using system simulation tool. The path between transmitter and receiver of radar simulation model was looped back using target Radar Cross Section (RCS) model and countermeasure model implemented in software whereas third loop-back was implemented using fabricated hardware. Simultaneous coherent detection and analysis of these three time-synchronized received signals were carried out for verification of deception and visualization of fabricated artificial target as perceived by ground based radar in hypothetical conditions. The design and verification methodology with results have been presented for conducted mode tests.

  • A Hardware-Based Countermeasure to Reduce Side-Channel Leakage: Design, Implementation, and Evaluation

    Side-channel attacks are one of the major concerns for security-enabled applications as they make use of information leaked by the physical implementation of the underlying cryptographic algorithm. Hence, reducing the side-channel leakage of the circuits realizing the cryptographic primitives is amongst the main goals of circuit designers. In this paper, we present a novel circuit concept, which decouples the main power supply from an internal power supply that is used to drive a single logic gate. The decoupling is done with the help of buffering capacitances integrated into semiconductor. We also introduce-compared to the previously known schemes-an improved decoupling circuit which reduces the crosstalk from the internal to the external power supply. The result of practical side-channel evaluation on a prototype chip fabricated in a 150nm CMOS technology shows a high potential of our proposed technique to reduce the side-channel leakages.

  • Study on wideband sparse spectrum waveform for anti-interception and anti-jamming countermeasure

    Aiming at the conflicting requirement for radar detection and electronic countermeasure in modern electronic warfare, the kind of sparse spectrum signal are introduced and analyzed. Based on the theoretical analysis and evaluation of narrowband and wideband signals in different use, simulation results show that this kind of signal skillfully deals with the inconsistent needs for detection in narrowband condition and for electronic countermeasure in wideband condition, and greatly improves the radar's overall performance.

  • An Intellectualized Evaluation Model for Highway Safety Countermeasure of At-grade Intersection

    In both at-grade intersections of highway and the area nearby, mixed traffic condition leads to severe traffic conflict, and causes traffic accident frequently happening. There are many factors with complicated inter- relationships that affect at-grade intersection's safety, and many uncertainties exist between traffic safety countermeasures and their expected effectiveness. In the process of developing and implementing countermeasures of highway traffic accident prevention, it is an essential task of current traffic safety management both to deal with the above-mentioned uncertainties effectively and to make scientific evaluation and selection of the countermeasures with an aim of allocating social resource reasonably. Upon a systematic analysis of both the characteristics of the traffic accidents and highway safety countermeasures in at-grade intersection, this paper proposes the at-grade intersection safety countermeasure system. With CRF (crash reduction factor) borrowed from USA applied, the effectiveness analysis of highway safety countermeasures in at-grade intersection is implemented. Based on the above, and with help of inductive learning approach, the intellectualized evaluation model (IEM) for highway safety countermeasure of at-grade intersection is established.
