This study developed an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) IoT architecture for ecosystem applications. The proposed mechanism groups attach request signaling by agent-based operations to reduce network congestion and to enhance service quality. The Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) platform is implemented and evaluated in a field trial. Performance analyses of the proposed architecture confirm that it can achieve a high- quality ecosystem in terms of power consumption and network performance with minimal loss of communication power.

However, the EPCIS system of each company is relatively independent, which brings new challenges to EPCIS system. In this essay, Push Service Solution based on the existing Web Service standard is proposed. It can solve the problems of stack-up and real-time processing of big data by means of real-time push of data and solve the communicative problem of different heterogeneous systems by taking advantage of Web Service standard. The solution can also provide a reference for the study and construction of EPCIS system.

  • GS1 Connected Car Using EPCIS-ONS System

    Recently, a number of car companies focus on collecting and analyzing data from connected car to provide accurate and variety of integrated information services to users. To provide integrated connected car services, however, there are still two main problems in existing systems. First, there are not well-defined standard car-related data models for data sharing which is basic prerequisite of integrated service. Second, each company stores the data to the closed server and blocks the access so that the data is available only inside the respective data silos. Because of these reasons, it is hard to combine various data to provide integrated information service. To solve the problems, we propose two solutions. 1) Define events of the car life cycle, and data models for data sharing. 2) Establish open system for data sharing and service registration based on GS1 standard. Upon proposed models and system, we have implemented an example service, traffic light control, as a third party service to show the feasibility of our system. Therefore, this research enables to provide open system to car companies and third party service providers to make services associated with the connected car.

  • RFID based Data Mining for E-logistics

However, it is nontrivial to get effective knowledge from massive data to improve the existed production or logistic system comparing with convenient data collection. In this paper, we develop an intelligent platform which combines RFID for data acquisition, Data Mining for knowledge discovery and enterprise applications in the field of E-logistics. Especially association rule is applied to mine the associations between the distribution nodes and product quality within a product distribution logistic network on the basis of RFID datasets. The analysis result is the same as in the problem hypothesis, which concludes that it will be applicable for such kind of product distribution network analysis.

  • MongoDB-Based Repository Design for IoT-Generated RFID/Sensor Big Data

    Internet of Things (IoT)-generated data are characterized by its continuous generation, large amount, and unstructured format. The existing relational database technologies are inadequate to handle such IoT-generated data due to the limited processing speed and the significant storage-expansion cost. Thus, big data processing technologies, which are normally based on distributed file systems, distributed database management, and parallel processing technologies, have arisen as a core technology to implement IoT-generated data repositories. In this paper, we propose a sensor-integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) data repository-implementation model using MongoDB, the most popular big data-savvy document-oriented database system now. First, we devise a data repository schema that can effectively integrate and store the heterogeneous IoT data sources, such as RFID, sensor, and GPS, by extending the event data types in electronic product code information services standard, a de facto standard for the information exchange services for RFID-based traceability. Second, we propose an effective shard key to maximize query speed and uniform data distribution over data servers. Last, through a series of experiments measuring query speed and the level of data distribution, we show that the proposed design strategy, which is based on horizontal data partitioning and a compound shard key, is effective and efficient for the IoT- generated RFID/sensor big data.

  • Information Management and Tracking of Drugs in Supply Chains within the Pharmaceutical Industry

    The authors examine information management and tracking of drugs in supply chains within the pharmaceutical industry. The focal concern in this setting is counterfeit drugs, a dilemma of paramount importance for public health and the well-being and safety of patients. The authors advocate RFID and related technologies, including EPCglobal's Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) and IBM's RFID Information Center system that, in turn, provide a suitable infrastructure for the tracking and tracing of uniquely identifiable, i.e. mass-serialized, products throughout the supply chain. A two-pronged theoretical framework is presented utilizing Transaction Cost Theory and Collective Action Theory to view the present research setting. Several regulatory efforts and compliance regimes are presented and a call for collective action for all stakeholders within the supply chain in the pharmaceutical industry is advanced.
