The RFID-TA conference aims to attract researchers and experts from both academia and industry who are interested in developing advanced automatic identification systems based on radio waves. The traceability system has become relatively important especially in food and agriculture industries because it increases the quality of the products; however, the implementation of traceability system based on the one public cloud experiences the ineffective-cost operation cost. In this research, we therefore propose the conceptual framework for cost-effective traceability system based on federated clouds. The basic structure of traceability system comprises the centralized and internal traceability systems which conform to EPCglobal Network including, Electronic Product Code Discovery Service (EPCDS) and Electronic Product Code Information Service (EPCIS). The Tricircle OpenStack API is adopted to control and manage the traceability systems which are deployed in the different public cloud providers. In addition, the cost model of federated hybrid cloud (COMBSPO) is applied to the conceptual framework to discover the lowest cost solution for implementing the traceability systems in the various public clouds providers. The results suggest that the proposed traceability system achieves the cost-effective solution from implementation of federated clouds, which outperforms that of the traceability system run on the one public cloud.
A supply chain usually involves collaboration among multi-national companies and it is well-known that information sharing is a critical success factor in supply chain management. Electronic Product Code Discovery Service (EPCDS) is a newly proposed concept which allows supply chain companies to search for their unknown partners globally and share information efficiently. As EPCDS contains critical business information about partnership relationship and product movement, access control systems are integrated into EPCDS for privacy protection. Although currently proposed access control systems include authentication and authorization of supply chain companies, they do not consider authentication of business information published by the companies. This vulnerability enables malicious EPC event injection attack, where forged business information are registered to EPCDS by malicious parties. With such exploitation, adversaries can impersonate as legitimate supply chain partners, bypass the access control systems of EPCDS and get access to previously unauthorized information. To the best of our knowledge, our paper is the first to discover the possibility of such attack in EPCDS. Our paper discusses threat model and different types of adversaries for the attack. We then present general defense mechanisms and define the security requirements of preventive measures. We also propose a new prevention mechanism, where pseudo- random numbers are generated by EPC tags and serves as authentication tokens for registering EPC events. Moreover, our paper analyzes how existing solutions, such as tailing, can be modified to detect malicious EPC event injection in EPCDS.

To protect the privacy of the centralized data, this paper proposes a novel approach in how to handle the accessibility of the multiple data owners for the centralized EPCDS. The proposed framework facilitates the rules and techniques to authenticate the data owners and provides them the authority to access the allowed data. The data communication security through the internet is also included using Transport Layer Security (TLS). Based on the centralized EPCDS architecture, this framework provides flexibility and confidentiality for the data owners and ensures that their data will be protected from discovery by their business competitors or any unauthorized persons.
