    The goal of the human engineering design is clear, and the approach to catch the goal is various. The author will take three chair designs as cases: the chair designed by basic human scale standard, kneeling chair, and armchair ¿vertebra¿. The three cases exactly exhibit three models of human-product relationship: adapt, guide and interact. The human engineering design should not use only one model invariably and isolated, but choice, organize and colligate various means and forms widely and neatly in order to realize design goal. So we should understand and accord with human's attribute and particularity firstly, and then lead human's life developing to energetic and positive way. We also should harmonize the relationship of human and product, and mobilize their advantages and effects. The product and its user will affect each other, match each other, supply each other and revise each other, and then establish the best relationship of human-product.

    The crude water-soluble oligosaccharides, coded as TOS, VOS and BOS, were isolated from tunica, viscera and whole body of the ascidian Styela clava, which chemical and physical characteristics were determined by several chemical methods, as well as their antioxidant activities by various in vitro assay systems. TOS with the lowest yield had higher sulfate and uronic acid content than the other two samples. The EC50 of TOS, VOS and BOS were 6.32, 3.45 and 5.55 mg/mL against hydroxyl radical and 1.35, 0.77 and 0.90 mg/mL against DPPH radicals, respectively. VOS showed the highest antioxidant activities among three samples. The results indicated that crude oligosaccharide extracted from different parts of Styela clava had antioxidant activities, which could be explored as novel potential antioxidants.

    An attempt to quantitate the organization of the human uterus was made by measuring the maximum amplitude and the maximum and minimum slopes of the intrauterine pressure waveform prior to induced labor and during spontaneous and induced labors. No apparent differences in the ratio of the maximum amplitude to the maximum and minimum slopes were found in these three physiological states. All the correlation coefficients for the maximum amplitude and maximum (r<L>1</L>) and minimum (r<L>2</L>) slopes were high, r<L>1</L>, ranging from 0.79-0.84, and r<L>2</L> from 0.72-0.80. Possible use of these measures in the further analysis of the organization of uterine contractility is discussed.

It can be divided into four parts: the background and importance of the kitchenware industry towards the Chinese market, the major dissimilarities in dietetic culture between China and western countries, features of Chinese dietetic culture and western dietetic culture, the possible kitchenware design direction.

  • Notice of Retraction: Antioxidant Activities of Crude and Fractionated Extracts from the Ascidian Styela clava

    Abstract-The antioxidant activities of crude and fractionated extracts from the ascidian Styela clava were determined using 1, l-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) system, reducing power assay and β-carotene method. Results indicated that the viscera extract showed the highest activities among three different crude extracts obtained from S. clava. In addition, the ethyl acetate soluble fraction isolated from viscera extract exhibited obvious antioxidant activities, which EC50were 54.91 and 59.86 μg/mL on DPPH radicals scavenging effect and β-carotene bleaching assay, respectively. Moreover, its reducing power was 152.0 mg/g dry weight of AscAE.

  • Morphologic alterations in brain, blood and viscera following use of cardiopulmonary bypass to induce prolonged deep hypothermic circulatory arrest after hemorrhagic shock in dogs

    The feasibility of using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) as a rapid method to induce deep hypothermic circulatory arrest during intractable hemorrhagic shock to allow repair of otherwise lethal injuries in a bloodless field is investigated. Rapid (13-37 min.) cooling to 15 degrees C and later rewarming were accomplished using the heater/cooler unit of a cardiopulmonary bypass system (centrifugal pump, hollow fiber membrane oxygenator). Fifteen lightly anesthetized spontaneously breathing dogs were subjected to a 30-min. period of hemorrhagic shock (mean arterial pressure of 40 mm Hg) followed by cooling to 15 degrees C and 60, 90, or 120 min. of circulatory arrest. Two additional dogs (shams) had hypothermic CPB without a period of circulatory arrest (one with and one without a period of hemorrhagic shock). Alterations in blood parameters, brain, and visceral organs are discussed.<<ETX>>

  • On-line estimation of cardiac output and tissue tensions during anaesthesia

    This paper describes the use of a physiologically-based model of inhaled agent pharmacokinetics to estimate both the cardiac output and tissue anaesthetic tensions of a patient during anaesthesia. The method requires only noninvasive measurements of inspired and end-tidal anaesthetic concentration. The performance of the estimation scheme is illustrated with a simulation example.

  • Optical imaging of presynaptic events: presynaptic regulation of pain information

    Presynaptic control is now believed to play major roles in the neuronal functions including the induction of synaptic plasticity, the regulation of synaptic transmission and in the development of the nervous system. We have been studying the sensory signal transmission in the spinal dorsal horn where primary afferent fibers from the skin, muscle and viscera terminate, and sensory information is first processed. Results suggest that vanilloid receptors at the afferent terminals in the dorsal horn may be important in sensing and responding to the body temperature and the body pH.

  • Observations of the current change on acupuncture spots at the meal time

    One of major issues on oriental medicine is to clarify effects and substances of a vital energy called as 'Qi(Ki) '. 'Qi(Ki) ' is a flow of the vital energy which is channeled via Kyung-rak in the structure of the human body. The oriental medicine says that when the flow of the vital energy is blocked, a health is lost. The oriental medicine recovers the health by controlling the flow of the vital energy with acupuncture. Spots responded to a disease is the Kyung-hyul on the Kyung-rak. The Kyung-rak is a meridian of a medical treatment by acupuncture. This study is intended to measure changes of the flow of the vital energy in connection with changes of current capacity through measuring the current change of the Kyung-hyul by impressing DC voltage. The change of the vital energy flow was indirectly expressed by measuring the changes of the body current on the physical change of the body before and after the meal among physical environmental changes. For it, an experiment was conducted for the above physical changes. As the result of the study, healthy persons showed a regular change of the body current pattern before and after the meal. On the other hand, the pattern of unhealthy persons current changes was very different from the pattern of health person's current changes.
