Summary from only given, as follows. The use of numerical techniques in teaching engineering electromagnetic appears to be in a state of intense debate. While electromagnetic continues to the taught the way it was a generation back, efforts at modernizing the curriculum using the computer methods now used routinely in industry, are still controversial because of the crowded nature of ...

Applied Electr., S-412 96 Göteborg, Sweden', u'full_name': u'Mats Viberg'}] 1996 8th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO 1996), 1996

We present a minimal continuous parametrization of all multivariate rational contractive transfer functions. In contrast to traditional minimal parametrizations, this parametrization does not contain any structural indices, which makes it very suitable for identification algorithms that use nonlinear optimization to estimate the parameters.

IEEE-USA E-Books

  • Engineering Your Own Success Stories from Practicing Engineers

This chapter presents the stories that are submitted by the practicing engineers to the author after reading the first edition of this book. The stories show how engineers are using the information to succeed. The first story is from Eric Juma, a 15-year-old Connecticut high school student with an intense passion for science and engineering. The second story is from Ilias Gibigaye, who made a difficult decision to leave behind his career as a professional soccer player on the West African coast. The third story is from Mitch Guy, PE, a licensed professional engineer in Shreveport, Louisiana. The fourth story is from Diego Espitia, a civil engineer in Miami, Florida. The chapter ends with the stories of Pat Sweet, an electrical engineer working in the rail industry in Kingston, and Denise Nelson, a civil environmental engineer (PE), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) in Richmond.

  • Inverted LFL Antenna for Dual‐Band Operation

A dual‐band antenna called the inverted LFL antenna (InvLFL) is made of a thin conducting film, where both the top radiation element and the ground plane lie in the same plane, that is, the InvLFL has a card antenna structure. The card structure differs from the layered antenna structure for dual‐frequency operation, where the ground plane backs a radiation element. It is emphasized that the InvLFL is intended for installation in mobile equipment. In such a case, polarization purity is not required; however, an appropriate frequency response for the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is important. This chapter presents the steps involved in reaching the InvLFL configuration. The analysis for the design is performed using the finite‐difference time‐domain method (FDTDM) based on Yee's algorithm and the antenna excitation is modeled by a delta‐gap voltage source Vin(t), which is defined by a sine function modulated by a Gaussian function.
