OFC/NFOEC is the world's leading international conference for optical communications and networking professionals.
The 2011 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC 2011) will provide a major international forum for exchanging information on research and developments in the theoretical and experimental fields of and Optoelectronics including Millimeter and Nanometer Waves, Microwaves, Antennas, Propagation, Wireless Communication, Fiber Optics, Photonic Networks.
The conference will be a forum for in-depth discussion to promote novel methodologies and cutting-edge solutions to meet the emerging challenges in the biomedical and the pharmaceutical fields.
All aspects of optical guided-wave science, technology, and engineering in the areas of fiber and cable technologies; active and passive guided-wave componentry (light sources, detectors, repeaters, switches, fiber sensors, etc.); integrated optics and optoelectronics; systems and subsystems; new applications; and unique field trials.
Rapid publication of original research relevant to photonics technology. This expanding field emphasizes laser and electro-optic technology, laser physics and systems, applications, and photonic/ lightwave components and applications. The journal offers short, archival publication with minimal delay.
40% devoted to special issues published in J. Quantum Electronics. Other topics: solid-state lasers, fiber lasers, optical diagnostics for semi-conductor manufacturing, and ultraviolet lasers and applications.
The Field of Interest of the IEEE Sensors Journal is the science and applications of sensing phenomena, including theory, design, and application of devices for sensing and transducing physical, chemical, and biological phenomena. The emphasis is on the electronics, physics, biology, and intelligence aspects of sensors and integrated sensor-actuators. (IEEE Guide for Authors) (The fields of interest of the IEEE ...
Sabano, T.; Ohta, T.; Tanaka, T.; Childers, D.; Schoellner, D. Optical Fiber Communication - incudes post deadline papers, 2009. OFC 2009. Conference on, 2009
This paper presents the development of a multiple row MT connector for 80 mum diameter optical fibers. We conclude that the connector is effective for optical interconnections.

We demonstrate SNR improvement of OTDR using simplex codes by experiment, for the first time. For this, we proposed a practical algorithm and derived detailed equations. An in-house OTDR board was developed to verify the proposed algorithm, and the experimental results showed excellent agreement with theory. In addition, we analyzed the SNR variation of the simplex code OTDR, caused by ...

In recent years, the transfer learning framework has gained increasing interest in the machine learning community. Fundamentally, this framework aims to train a new target system using existing data or knowledge from one or more previous source systems. By extending the theory of standard machine learning techniques, this framework allows us to solve many challenging problems directly and intuitively. This ...
Malinsky, B.; Monte, T.; Kubo, T.; Brunner, J.; Wenxin Zheng Optical Fiber Communication - incudes post deadline papers, 2009. OFC 2009. Conference on, 2009
A new method for splicing KVH Industries D-fiber using automatic polarization and fiber core alignment is described. A Fujikura FSM-45PM splicer is used in this process for achieving consistent splice loss less than 0.5 dB and Polarization Extinction Ratio greater than 25 dB.
Sumetsky, M.; Dulashko, Y. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2006 and the 2006 National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference. OFC 2006, 2006
By monitoring the whispering gallery mode resonances, which are excited in an optical fiber by a moving microfiber, we determine the optical fiber effective diameter variation with angstrom accuracy and sensor the residuals and defects on the fiber surface
Gu, Claire Optical Biomedical Sensors, 2008
Early diagnostics of diseases is the key to treatment, cure, and fatality prevention. Various biomedical sensors are available or being developed to achieve early disease diagnostics with non-invasive or minimally invasive techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonic imaging, X-ray imaging, CT scan, optical coherent tomography (OCT), endoscopy, microscopy, spectroscopy, etc. Among these techniques, optical technologies, including various microscopy ...
Johnson, Larry Introduction to Fiber Optics - The Basics, 2009
Fiber optics is an amazing technology that allows our daily voice, video and data transmissions to occur with ever-increasing quality and lower costs. In this tutorial, you will be presented with a brief history that covers how fiber optics evolved from the 19th century to the present. This will be followed by a short primer on light basics that examines ...
Johnson, Larry Fiber Optic Splicing - Fiber Preparation and Multimode Splicing, 2009
In this tutorial we will begin with an introduction to the correct methods of preparing, cleaving, splicing and protecting optical fibers using a cross- section of splicing equipment and techniques. Fiber optic splicing is performed in the field, the factory and in the laboratory. We will discuss the various applications in addition to premises and acceptance testing. Next, fiber preparation ...
Johnson, Larry Fiber Optic Connectors - Termination and Testing, 2009
In this tutorial we will review the methods used to bond, hold and align optical fibers for factory and field terminations. Scribing tools and techniques will also be covered. Next, proper polishing of the optical endface will be reviewed as well as the importance of cleaning optical surfaces to minimize damage, lower attenuation, and improve reflection values. This is followed ...
Johnson, Larry OTDR Theory and Operation - Operating the OTDR, 2009
In this tutorial, we examine the OTDR's key role which is the acceptance testing of optical fibers and cables. This is followed by a review of the key task for users--identifying and measuring splices in the optical cable span. Next we examine reflectance, which is recognized today as a limitation of high-performance systems. This is followed by a review of ...
