India dedicates first newsprint mill

Electrical Engineering, 1956

Formal dedication and opening ceremonies were held recently for the first mill in India to manufacture newsprint. The dedication was attended by many Indian dignitaries, including Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was on hand for the opening of this modern, integrated newsprint mill.

Lafarge's Harleyville cement plant operations

D. Stafford IEEE Cement Industry Technical Conference, 2006. Conference Record., 2006

The Lafarge Harleyville South Carolina plant has been in operation for over 30 years. During that time there have been a number of changes in ownership, as well as several upgrade projects resulting in a modern plant that produces about one million tonnes of quality product each year. This paper gives a brief history of the plant, and describe the ...

Comparison of experiments on duct propagation above the sea with the mode theory of Booker and Walkinshaw

Helmut Jeske; Karl Brocks Radio Science, 1966

Experiments on tropospheric duct propagation above the sea are discussed, especially in comparison with the mode theory of Booker and Walkinshaw. While the salient features of ducting processes are well described by this theory, we find no quantitative agreement between the observed and the theoretically predicted field-strength values. The main reason for this may be additional energy scatter in the ...

Autopilot and TV-equipped aerial drone

Electrical Engineering, 1956

Details of a unique new autopilot now being used as part of a drone control system by the United States Army Signal Corps were announced by Temco Aircraft Corporation.

Hydrogen Cooling of Rotating Machines

C. M. Laffoon Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1936

Hydrogen cooled synchronous condensers now in use have a total rating of several hundred thousand kilovolt-amperes. During the last 2 years the use of hydrogen cooling has been extended frequency converters, and most recently to turbine generators. Several such machines now are being constructed. This method of cooling not only results in a reduction of machine losses and maintenance cost, ...

  • VHF to SHF Radio Prediction

**A practical guide to the principles of radio communications for both civilian and military applications** In this book, the author covers both the civilian and military uses of technology, focusing particularly on the applications of radio propagation and prediction. Divided into two parts, the author introduces the basic theory of radio prediction before providing a step-by-step explanation of how this theory can be translated into real-life applications. In addition, the book presents up-to-date systems and methods to illustrate how these applications work in practice. This includes systems working in the HF bands and SHF. Furthermore, the author examines the performance of these systems, and also the effects of noise, interference and deliberate jamming, as well as the performance of jamming, detection and intercept systems. Particular attention is paid to the problems caused by Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs). **Key Features:** * * Written by an expert in both the civilian and military applications of the technology * Focuses on methods such as radio and radar jamming, and radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) * Contains problems and solutions to clarify key topics

  • Petool Virtual Propagation Package

This chapter introduces a novel software tool (PETOOL), which is developed in MATLAB with graphical user interface (GUI) for the analysis and visualization of radio wave propagation through the homogeneous and inhomogeneous atmosphere, by incorporating variable terrain effects with the aid of the two‐way split‐step algorithm employing wide‐angle propagator. The PE method handles only the forward‐propagating waves and neglects the backscattered waves. The forward waves provide almost accurate results for typical long‐range propagation problems, only if there does not exist obstacles that redirect the incoming wave in the form of reflections and diffractions. PETOOL software package has been developed in MATLAB with a user‐friendly GUI for the analysis and visualization of radio wave propagation. The user should be able to easily specify range dependent or range independent refractivity profiles by just selecting from a list of various types of atmosphere profiles.
