P-cycles in multi-failure network survivability

H. Wang; H. T. Mouftah Proceedings of 2005 7th International Conference Transparent Optical Networks, 2005., 2005

We introduce a new mechanism to provide multi-failure survivability based on p-cycles. This mechanism called MFS (multifailure survivability scheme) consists of two stages: off-line centralized calculation and on-line distributed selection. Simulation results show that MFS has high probability to survive multiple failures without adding any extra capacity.

Seamless handover in buildings using HVAC ducts: a new system architecture

In this paper, we present an innovative solution to the handover problem in multi-story buildings using HVAC ducts for wireless communications. The proposed solution is based on a new system architecture design of the indoor wireless networks that use the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts as a communication channel. Exploiting the system architecture design and the time diversity ...

An architecture for a universal Reed-Solomon encoder using a triangular basis multiplication algorithm

M. A. Hasan Proceedings of Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 1993

Reed-Solomon (RS) codes have many practical applications. The complexity of RS encoders and decoders depends on arithmetic operations in the finite field over which the code is defined. In this paper, using a triangular basis multiplication algorithm a universal GF(2m) multiplier is presented. The multiplier can be used for different values of m. The maximum value of m is determined ...

Forced-air cooling for station cables

R. W. Burrell; A. J. Falcone; W. J. Roberts Electrical Engineering, 1952

In modernizing older existing stations in connection with plant capacity addition programs, difficulties often are encountered in installing adequate generator outlet capacity for modern generators several times larger in rating than the older units being replaced. In some cases the use of forced-air cooling may be justified as a means of increasing cable capacity well beyond the self-cooled rating of ...
