    In current Industrial world, there has been an increase in demand for wind power. Few of the major challenges in wind industry is the component complexity and material reliability. Thus, there is a need of determining alternative and more efficient manufacturing method. Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a process which enables layer-wise fabrication of complex parts directly from CAD files without part-specific tooling. Additive manufacturing increases design freedom for building complex part geometries that cannot be made by traditional manufacturing methods. The ability to build customized integrated parts with less material wastage is desirable. The main aim of this paper is to discuss about the possibilities of using AM in spare parts production in wind Industry. To justify the compatibility of AM, there is a need to determine the loads acting on the wind turbine components. Hence, load analysis of AOC 50 kW reference wind turbine was simulated through FAST and Rainflow counting algorithm. The results from the simulations were used to compare the experimental fatigue data of AM material with one of commonly used wind turbine material.

At last, six important characteristic numbers of thermal analysis are calculated. The experiment demonstrates that using this method can obtain better performance than other method.

  • Security assessment modeling for water supply network based on leakage analysis

    Based on the characteristics of urban water supply system, the urban pipe network security assessment system was established, and then AHP method combined with fuzzy evaluation was used to carry out a comprehensive security assessment for the leakage of the urban pipe network. By calculating a real case and analyzing various leakage causes and their impact, the assessment model was verified reasonable.

    The author seeks to bring some clarity and perspective on the use of acceptable risk by reporting on a specific case study in which it was used. He describes an application where acceptable risk is used in planning the replacement of cast iron and steel pipe sections in a natural gas distribution system. The application reveals some practical lessons, including, the need to frame risk constraints in terms of events where there is operating experience and the need to work within a risk management framework which is integrated with respect to the total system being managed.<<ETX>>

  • Effects of shot peening treatment on very long life fatigue property in ductile cast irons

    Rotating bending fatigue tests that covered very long life region (up to over 10/sup 8/), were carried out on specimens of three kinds of ductile cast iron (austempered one, ADI, pearlitic one, PDI and ferrite pearlitic one, FPDI) with shot peening (SP) treatment. Influences of the SP treatment on fracture morphology and fatigue property were investigated. It is expected that the SP treatment results not only the high level work hardening and the high level compressive residual stress in the surface layer of the specimens, but also the decrease in casting defects in near surface. Then, they lead a considerable improvement of fatigue strength. Therefore, initial distribution of the hardness in the surface layer of the SP treated specimens was measured. Furthermore, in the PDI-SP and the FPDI-SP materials, it was observed that the sites of the fatigue crack initiation were transferred from the surface to subsurface in the longer life regions, but in the ADI-SP material, the fatigue crack initiation site in whole region of fatigue life was the subsurface. And the S-N diagrams did not show fatigue limit over 10/sup 7/ cycles. So differences in fatigue fracture morphology in the shorter and the longer region of fatigue life were discussed from detailed observation of crack initiation sites with afield emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM).
