Experimental r-θ density profiles of compact, copper wire-array Z-pinches on cobra
Blesener, I.; Pikuz, S.; Shelkovenko, T.; Kusse, B.; Seyler, C. Plasma Science, 2010 Abstracts IEEE International Conference on, 2010
Calibrated r-θ density profiles from wire-array experiments on COBRA will be presented. Profiles are axially averaged over the height of the array. The data was gathered using an axial X pinch backlighter. Images have better than 5-micron resolution with calibrated ion densities from 1018 to 1020 cm-3. The experimental data showing ion density and timing of ablation streams and precursor ...

Summary form only given. Measurement of plasma parameters and velocity during the implosion and stagnation phase is challenging, but essential for understanding x-ray production in wire array Z pinches. This article outlines K-shell spectroscopic, monochromatic self-emission, and radiographic plasma diagnostic techniques.

Plasma dynamics in radial wire array Z-pinches
Lebedev, S.V.; Ampleford, D.J.; Bland, S.N.; Bott, S.; Chittenden, J.P.; Ciardi, A.; Jennings, C.; Haines, M.G.; Hall, G.; Palmer, J.B.A.; Rapley, J. Plasma Science, 2004. ICOPS 2004. IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. The 31st IEEE International Conference on, 2004
Summary form only given. We describe experiments on the MAGPIE facility (1 MA, 250ns) with radial wire array Z-pinches, in which the wires form a wheel-spoke configuration. Variation of the global magnetic field and the corresponding JxB force along the wires in this configuration allows studying an effect of the global magnetic field on the ablation rate of the wires. ...

Pikuz, S.A.; Shelkovenko, T.A.; Hammer, D.A.; Sinars, D.B.; Dimant, Y.S.; Greenly, J.B. Plasma Science, 1999. ICOPS '99. IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1999 IEEE International Conference on, 1999
Summary form only given. Exploding wire and wire array experiments have been carried out in Z-pinch and X-pinch geometry using low current (4.5 kA amplitude, 1.4 ps period damped sinusoid) and high current (up to 225 kA, 100 ns) drivers. X-ray backlighter images have been obtained using Mg, Al, Ti, Fe, Ni, NiCr, Cu, brass, Mo, Pd, Ag, Ta, W, ...
