Risk-based framework for the planning of low-voltage networks incorporating severe uncertainty

Michiel Nijhuis; Madeleine Gibescu; Sjef Cobben IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2017

Current low-voltage (LV) network planning methods consist mostly of a static deterministic assessment of radial network alternatives. This straightforward approach does not take into account the uncertainty which comes with the introduction of photovoltaic generation, electric vehicles and other new technologies into the LV network. Moreover, these technologies may call for a change in network topology, from radially oriented networks ...

Options for real options: dealing with uncertainty in investment decisions for electricity networks

Y. C. Wijnia; P. M. Herder 2005 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2005

Part of the liberalization effort in the Netherlands was to regulate the income of the network companies. Although the reduction in income was not as dramatic as in the United Kingdom, it still forced the network companies to review their expenditures. Complicating the challenge was the silent requirement that the cost reduction should not result in more risk. This required ...

  • Asset Management Based on Condition Monitoring and Risk Evaluation

Equipment condition monitoring technologies have been rapidly developed with the progress of electronic devices and information technology. This chapter presents asset management methods based on both equipment condition monitoring and system risk evaluation. Two management strategies are presented. One is the maintenance strategy of nonaged overhead lines and the other is the replacement strategy of aged transformers. In the case of nonaged overhead lines, the key is to build the model for the relationship between condition monitoring information and failure frequency of lines, whereas in the case of aged transformers, the key is to build the model for the relationship between aging condition measurements and unavailability due to aging failure of transformer.

  • Asset Management in ShortTerm Markets

This chapter contains sections titled: Retailers Power Producers Integrated Energy Companies

  • Asset Management Process

This chapter contains sections titled: Introduction Process Implementation Activity Asset Storage and Retrieval Definition Activity Asset Management and Control Activity Summary References

  • Data Asset Management

Successful adoption of Data as a Service (DaaS) is based on three factors: the quality of data and content, underlying architectural principles used for management, and real-world experiences of how to distribute them to consumers in an effective manner. This chapter provides a detailed overview of the major categories of data that can be considered significant and shared across the enterprise including master data, reference data, analytical data, and big data. Data asset management (DAM) ensures that all of an organization's data content gets treated as corporate assets with tangible value. The chapter discusses how often most organizations lack a standard information delivery system in relation to sharing enterprise data. The implementation of DAM is most effective within an organization when they support enterprise information management (EIM) policies that aim to improve data quality and governance.

This chapter contains sections titled: The Salzburg Curriculum, Transformative Social Engagement, Technology, Asset Management, Cultural Skills, Knowledge, Learning, and Innovation, Management for Participation

  • Impact of Moisture and Remaining Life Estimation

This chapter provides a complete overview of water in transformers and discusses the techniques used to measure the water content of insulation. The effect of water on transformer operation is presented to help the reader understand the problems and case studies are shown using measurement data obtained from normally operating power transformers. Within an oil???filled transformer, the majority of water exists within its cellulosic insulation. Karl Fischer (KF) Titration is an accurate technique to measure the water content of a material or liquid, in mass of water per mass of dry material. The condition of aged paper was quantified by its degree of polymerization (DP). Two detrimental effects of water are presented. The first is from an operational viewpoint. The second is from an asset management perspective, where the remaining life of the insulation is reduced by chemical reactions occurring with water.

  • Digital Asset Management and Document Management

Digital Asset Management (DAM) is the end???to???end lifecycle management of digital assets, including asset ingestion, asset tagging, asset versioning, asset storage, and asset distribution. Main objectives of a DAM system include providing an asset management platform for optimal asset access, providing asset flows, serving various asset renditions, tagging assets, and supporting content systems for creating a consistent brand experience. This chapter looks at the definition, objectives, trends, and architecture of DAM. It discusses the challenges and best practices of DAM and also looks at capabilities and evolution and the road map of document management. Many business areas such as marketing function, brand management function, media and entertainment industry, publishing industry, training and learning domains, public relations domain, and advertisement domain use digital assets extensively to achieve their business goals. The chapter concludes with a case study of document management solution for a banking portal.

Being prepared for your future career progression is referred to as career asset management. Since your career is your earning power for paying back your debts and financing your retirement, it is perfectly logical to think of it as an asset. Humans protect their worldly assets, their houses, their families. Why not protect their earning power and their careers? With many companies cutting back their human relations and employee development departments, training budgets tend to be very localized, and somewhat reduced in size and scope from what they once were. More responsibility falls on the shoulders of departmental managers and their staffs. It is up to employees and managers to talk about, and perhaps plan, for employees? futures -- but the bulk of the responsibility rests with the employees?
