Since your career is your earning power for paying back your debts and financing your retirement, it is perfectly logical to think of it as an asset. Humans protect their worldly assets, their houses, their families. Why not protect their earning power and their careers? With many companies cutting back their human relations and employee development departments, training budgets tend to be very localized, and somewhat reduced in size and scope from what they once were. More responsibility falls on the shoulders of departmental managers and their staffs. It is up to employees and managers to talk about, and perhaps plan, for employees? futures -- but the bulk of the responsibility rests with the employees?

  • Digital Asset Management and Document Management

    Digital Asset Management (DAM) is the end‐to‐end lifecycle management of digital assets, including asset ingestion, asset tagging, asset versioning, asset storage, and asset distribution. Main objectives of a DAM system include providing an asset management platform for optimal asset access, providing asset flows, serving various asset renditions, tagging assets, and supporting content systems for creating a consistent brand experience. This chapter looks at the definition, objectives, trends, and architecture of DAM. It discusses the challenges and best practices of DAM and also looks at capabilities and evolution and the road map of document management. Many business areas such as marketing function, brand management function, media and entertainment industry, publishing industry, training and learning domains, public relations domain, and advertisement domain use digital assets extensively to achieve their business goals. The chapter concludes with a case study of document management solution for a banking portal.

  • Asset Management Based on Condition Monitoring and Risk Evaluation

    Equipment condition monitoring technologies have been rapidly developed with the progress of electronic devices and information technology. This chapter presents asset management methods based on both equipment condition monitoring and system risk evaluation. Two management strategies are presented. One is the maintenance strategy of nonaged overhead lines and the other is the replacement strategy of aged transformers. In the case of nonaged overhead lines, the key is to build the model for the relationship between condition monitoring information and failure frequency of lines, whereas in the case of aged transformers, the key is to build the model for the relationship between aging condition measurements and unavailability due to aging failure of transformer.

Data asset management (DAM) ensures that all of an organization's data content gets treated as corporate assets with tangible value. The chapter discusses how often most organizations lack a standard information delivery system in relation to sharing enterprise data. The implementation of DAM is most effective within an organization when they support enterprise information management (EIM) policies that aim to improve data quality and governance.

  • Distribution System Planning

    The main steps of electric distribution system planning can be depicted by the flow chart. The flow chart starts with identifying the system capacity to enable the planner to model the network loading and performance and identify system inadequacies and constraints. The planning process depends mainly on the factors such as demand forecast, planning policy, condition monitoring (CM), and reliability standards. This chapter summarizes the planning objectives of the distribution system. Distribution losses are inevitable consequences of distributing energy between the zone substations and consumers. Losses in distribution networks can be broken down into technical losses and non‐technical losses. The planners should think about the available solutions that can be applied to modify the distribution network installations to meet the load growth in the next 3 to 5 years. The solutions can be classified into two types: network solutions and nonnetwork solutions.

  • Probabilistic Indicators for the Assessment of Reliability and Security of Future Power Systems

    To prevent large blackouts, reliability analysis and reliability management are of the utmost importance. While deterministic approaches and criteria have been used effectively in the past, probabilistic methods will be increasingly applied in the future as these provide more insight into the reliability of the transmission network. This chapter describes how probabilistic reliability analysis is used to study the reliability of large transmission networks. The following are two methods for reliability analysis: state enumeration and Monte Carlo simulation. The chapter introduces the concept of time horizons in the planning and operation of a power system. Several reliability indicators are commonly used in probabilistic reliability analysis. The chapter discusses these indicators. These reliability indicators can be directly related to security‐of‐supply, but can also be additional reliability indicators. The chapter describes a case study of the Dutch transmission network.
