Asset management in the electricity supply industry

K. Morton Power Engineering Journal, 1999

Asset management is given a wide variety of interpretations throughout industry and even within the electricity supply industry. Even within a single company, the interpretation may change with time-particularly as the company learns from its mistakes! This is especially true when the relationship between the asset management and service provider groups breaks down or becomes 'adversarial'.

Substation based data interpretation techniques for improved power system management

C. Booth; J. R. McDonald; A. Bennett; W. J. Laycock Proceedings of 1996 Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, 1996

There is now considerable pressure on electric utilities to operate their systems in the most efficient manner possible and to provide increased quality of service to customers. This pressure, coupled with the decreasing availability of reserve margins dictates that there is a requirement for comprehensive system operation support through, among other things, the provision of quality information relating to the ...

What is stopping the finance sector?

A. F. Dlugolecki IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2005, 2005

The purpose of this panel session is to review the potential impacts of climate change upon the insurance and finance sector, and explore some of the possible responses. This short paper aims to provide some context by describing attitudes towards climate change among institutional investors, and obstacles to an effective response. If these aspects are addressed, measures to counter global ...

Long Term Management of Private Digital Assets

Heinrich Jasper 2008 Third International Conference on Systems and Networks Communications, 2008

The lifetime of each individual is accompanied by a growing amount of digital assets, e.g. documents, pictures etc. Important digital assets will exist longer than the typical lifespan of the respective technology used for its creation, i.e. for several decades. We are looking for supportive technologies that help individuals in preserving their digital assets. Furthermore, documents might be involved in ...

Business Processes as a Service (BPaaS): A model-based approach to align business with cloud offerings

Robert Woitsch; Wilfrid Utz eChallenges e-2015 Conference, 2015

Cloud computing proved to offer flexible IT solutions. Although large enterprises may benefit from this technology by educating their IT departments, SMEs are dramatically falling behind in cloud usage and hence lose the ability to efficiently adapt their IT to their business needs. This paper introduces the project idea of the H2020 project CloudSocket, by elaborating the idea of Business ...

  • Data Asset Management

Successful adoption of Data as a Service (DaaS) is based on three factors: the quality of data and content, underlying architectural principles used for management, and real-world experiences of how to distribute them to consumers in an effective manner. This chapter provides a detailed overview of the major categories of data that can be considered significant and shared across the enterprise including master data, reference data, analytical data, and big data. Data asset management (DAM) ensures that all of an organization's data content gets treated as corporate assets with tangible value. The chapter discusses how often most organizations lack a standard information delivery system in relation to sharing enterprise data. The implementation of DAM is most effective within an organization when they support enterprise information management (EIM) policies that aim to improve data quality and governance.

  • Asset Management Based on Condition Monitoring and Risk Evaluation

Equipment condition monitoring technologies have been rapidly developed with the progress of electronic devices and information technology. This chapter presents asset management methods based on both equipment condition monitoring and system risk evaluation. Two management strategies are presented. One is the maintenance strategy of nonaged overhead lines and the other is the replacement strategy of aged transformers. In the case of nonaged overhead lines, the key is to build the model for the relationship between condition monitoring information and failure frequency of lines, whereas in the case of aged transformers, the key is to build the model for the relationship between aging condition measurements and unavailability due to aging failure of transformer.

Being prepared for your future career progression is referred to as career asset management. Since your career is your earning power for paying back your debts and financing your retirement, it is perfectly logical to think of it as an asset. Humans protect their worldly assets, their houses, their families. Why not protect their earning power and their careers? With many companies cutting back their human relations and employee development departments, training budgets tend to be very localized, and somewhat reduced in size and scope from what they once were. More responsibility falls on the shoulders of departmental managers and their staffs. It is up to employees and managers to talk about, and perhaps plan, for employees? futures -- but the bulk of the responsibility rests with the employees?
