Technology supported collaboration and communication between individuals entails complex social and psychological situations. An understanding of social and psychological aspects of collaboration is essential to creating productive work environments. The use of collaboration and communication systems is framed by the psychological and social factors concerning the users and their work environment. It is important to understand these factors to successfully ...
Chakrapani, P.N.; Ekbia, H.R. Technology and Society, 2004. ISTAS '04. International Symposium on, 2004
Science and engineering education in the U.S. has traditionally focused on the technical aspects of technology at the expense of the social, economical, organizational, and ethical aspects. This attitude has had profound implications for the transfer of technology to and from other parts of the world, many of which have already been uncovered and others probably discerned in the future. ...
Earley, S. IT Professional Conference (IT Pro), 2014, 2014
Organizations have understood the value of their structured data - mostly financial transactions - since the first mainframes were developed in the 40's. Data quality issues have always been a challenge and the increasing numbers of applications consuming and producing structured transactional data has grown exponentially. Unstructured information has been given less significance and strategic importance and therefore fewer resources ...
Martinsons, M.G. Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on, 1998
Although Hong Kong and Singapore have remarkably similar social, economic, and historical profiles, their policies to promote economic and technological progress constitute an on-going natural experiment and provide a stark contrast. The well-documented, state-led information technology (IT) effort in Singapore is used here to benchmark the lesser known policies and interventions of the Hong Kong government and to examine their ...
