Improving the QoE of mobile data access for long-lived connections in cellular networks

Zehui Li; Kaigui Bian; Tong Zhao; Xiaoming Li 2015 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS), 2015

Mobile applications are dominant in today's cellular networks (Mobile Internet), which demand frequent and intensive mobile data access services. Popular applications like instant message and social network apps require a long-lived connection to the backend server which periodically sends small "keep-alive" messages to maintain the connected app session. Existing research has revealed that the keep-alive messages degrade the quality of ...

Multicore SDK: A Practical and Efficient Deadlock Detector for Real-World Applications

Zhi Da Luo; Raja Das; Yao Qi 2011 Fourth IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation, 2011

Traditional deadlock detection algorithms depend on finding cycles in lock graphs created from the application code. Usually, these approaches suffer from scalability and performance problems and cannot handle large industrial strength applications. The main problem for lack of scalability and poor performance is caused by the size of the lock graphs that have to be analyzed. In this paper we ...

Enhancing Computer Accessibility for Disabled Users: A Kinect-Based Approach for Users with Motor Skills Disorder

Loay Alzubaidi; Ammar Elhassan; Jaafar Alghazo 2013 Taibah University International Conference on Advances in Information Technology for the Holy Quran and Its Sciences, 2013

In this paper, we present an application as a solution to problems encountered when using PC's by users with motor skills impairment. This application utilizes the Microsoft Kinect Sensor and its Visual Studio SDK to write code that interacts with this novel device originally intended for gaming but now more and more popular with learning, multimedia and entertainment systems. Preliminary ...

GPU-S2S: A Compiler for Source-to-Source Translation on GPU

Dan Li; Haijun Cao; Xiaoshe Dong; Bao Zhang 2010 3rd International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Programming, 2010

CUDA facilitates the development of General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU), however, its complex memory system, thread-level structure, and data transmission control between memories have brought great challenges for programming on GPU. In order to facilitate the development of parallel programs on GPU and reuse existing sequential codes, in this paper we propose a novel directive based compiler ...
